We had the good fortune of connecting with Leah Forney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leah, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe that life, business, and love all require risk. I am a firm believer that if I am going to gamble on anything or anyone I will always take a gamble on myself. I believe that anything you want out of life you have to be willing to take a risk. Prior to take risk, I believe that you should assess all costs. In business, we call it a cost/benefit analysis. I think that you should factor in the cost and benefits of every risk that you are willing to take. The benefits should out way the cost. So, Risk are necessary in life, business, and love.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a career, I am a mental health clinician. I have almost 9 years of experience in mental health. I have worked with every population from substance use to at risk youth to the homeless. I am passionate about my career. I love helping people create the lives they always wanted for themselves. As a book clarity coach, I help other women during the book writing process by helping them gain clarity on their message and target audience. I have combined my love of counseling, encouraging, and teaching and made it my business. My journey into the mental health arena started off as a personal one. My parents battled with addiction. My father was alcoholic until the day he died. My mom’s drug addiction led to a massive stroke and paralyzed. So, I saw trauma at a young age and it was my personal trauma that led me down the path of mental health and ultimately becoming a soon to be licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. It definitely wasn’t an easy journey. However, My ability to help other heal was in turn helping me heal as well. I rely a lot on my faith in God as well as my family and friends. My journey has allowed me to grow tremendously. I want the world to know that life is full of challenges but your pain has a purpose and that if you are willing to use your pain as motivation to fuel your passion you will not only heal yourself but you will allow others to heal as well.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So, I am a foodie as well as I love to be by the water. So, I would recommend these places as some of my favorite spots. 1. Dallas Botanical Gardens because I love nature and I love flowers and it is a relaxing place to be. 2. Dallas museum of Art is great for the creative and artist in you. I have become a fan of art therapy over the last year. So, looking at paintings and other artist work is great day for me. 3. Dallas Farmers Market is always a great day of shopping and meeting some of the locals. 4. Any of the food tours, Dallas has food tours some even include Chocolate and who doesn’t like chocolate lol. So, these are some of the spots I would recommend.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely, There are so many people I can thank for my success. I have an amazing support system. I have 2 spiritual fathers Pastor Samuel Brannon and Bishop Ronald L. Godbee who are amazing at keeping me spiritually grounded in everything i do. Of course, My grandmothers Willetta Daniels and Noel Mays are my biggest fans and are always cheering me on. My auntie Koffi Singleton who is such an inspiration as a business owner. She inspires me to go hard or go home. My best friend Ronn Brown who has been my rock for the last 10 years. My brother Shameer Lorde who is always supportive. Lastly, my tribe Tamara Mitchell-Davis, Victoria Henderson Poole, Sharetta Small Donalson, Ashley Gilmore, Ashley Reed and Asia Brooks are an amazing group of women who have been there through the good, bad, ugly seasons of my lives. These are the people who continue to support me and build me up and are always cheerleading me on.
