Meet Jay J. Armes III

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay J. Armes III and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jay J., how does your business help the community?
Many people think of private investigators as people who simply gather information, conduct surveillance, or locate individuals. In reality, our work often goes much deeper than that.
For more than forty years, I have had the privilege of helping people navigate some of the most difficult and emotional situations of their lives. Throughout my career, I have helped reunite families, locate missing loved ones, recover abducted children, assist crime victims, uncover critical evidence for attorneys, and provide answers to people who felt they had nowhere else to turn.
One of the things I have learned is that uncertainty can be incredibly painful. Whether someone is searching for a missing family member, trying to protect a child, dealing with fraud, facing threats, or seeking answers in a legal matter, they are often confronting a situation that affects every aspect of their life. Sometimes the greatest service we provide is helping people replace uncertainty with facts.
What many people do not realize is that some of the most meaningful work we do occurs before a crisis reaches its worst possible outcome. One of the unique aspects of the private investigative profession is that we are often brought in when concerns first arise, before a situation escalates into a crisis, a criminal matter, or a life-changing event. A parent may fear that a child is being endangered. A business may suspect fraud or theft. An individual may be experiencing harassment, stalking, blackmail, or other suspicious activity. In many cases, the information we uncover allows people to make informed decisions, protect themselves, and potentially prevent greater harm before it occurs. Sometimes the greatest impact we make is not solving a problem after the damage has been done, but helping someone avoid becoming a victim in the first place.
That is not a reflection on law enforcement, but rather the different roles we serve. Law enforcement performs a critical function in investigating crimes and protecting the public. Private investigators often have the opportunity to identify problems, uncover facts, and provide answers before a situation escalates into a criminal matter.
At Armes International Investigative Services, we work on cases throughout the United States and internationally, but our mission remains the same regardless of where the case takes us: help people find the truth and make informed decisions. In many cases, the information we uncover helps families reunite, protects vulnerable individuals, prevents further victimization, and provides closure that would otherwise be impossible to obtain.
The impact of investigative work is not always visible to the public. It often happens quietly, behind the scenes, one family, one child, one client, or one case at a time. But when you help a parent find an abducted child, locate a missing loved one, uncover evidence that protects an innocent person, prevent a tragedy, or provide answers that allow someone to move forward with their life, you quickly realize that this profession is about much more than investigations.
It is about helping people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives and giving them clarity, hope, and a path forward when they need it most.
That responsibility is something I have never taken lightly, and it remains one of the most rewarding aspects of my career.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Private investigations have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I was raised in the profession by my father, Jay J. Armes Sr., one of the most recognized private investigators in the world. Long before I became a licensed investigator myself, I learned that successful investigations are not built on gadgets, technology, or luck. They are built on persistence, integrity, attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to helping people.
Today, I am the Founder and Chief Investigator of Armes International Investigative Services LLC, a Dallas-based firm providing nationwide and international investigative services. Our work ranges from missing persons investigations, child recoveries, death investigations, surveillance, theft, fraud, embezzlement, and litigation support to complex domestic and international matters involving businesses, attorneys, and private individuals. I have worked on cases across the United States and around the world, but no matter how large or small the case may be, our mission remains the same: help people find answers when they feel they have nowhere else to turn.
What sets us apart is the depth and breadth of our experience. Over the course of more than four decades, I have had the privilege and the opportunity to work on cases that most investigators will never encounter in their entire careers. From international child recovery and kidnapping investigations to cross-border intelligence matters, homicide and suspicious death investigations, cartel-related investigations, recovering international fugitives, complex litigation, executive protection, and high-stakes locate cases, these experiences have provided a unique perspective on how to solve difficult problems under challenging circumstances.
More importantly, those cases taught me that successful investigations are rarely about luck or technology alone. They are about persistence, adaptability, sound judgment, and the ability to recognize opportunities that others may overlook. Every investigation presents its own challenges, but experience teaches you where to look, what questions to ask, and how to remain focused when the answers are not immediately apparent.
That perspective allows us to approach each case with a level of practical knowledge that can only be gained through years of real-world investigative work, both domestically and internationally.
The road to where I am today was certainly not easy. One of the biggest challenges of my career came when I made the difficult decision to leave behind a lifetime of established relationships, recognition, and business in El Paso and relocate to Dallas to build something of my own. Starting over from scratch in a new city requires humility, perseverance, faith, and a willingness to earn trust one client, one case, and one relationship at a time.
There was another moment in my career that had an even deeper impact on me. Investigative work—especially the types of cases I have handled throughout my career—can be emotionally exhausting. The things you see, the things you learn, the tragedies you witness, the never-ending deadlines, and the responsibility you carry for your clients can take a tremendous toll. People often come to us during the worst moments of their lives. They are looking for answers, justice, closure, or hope, and they are placing enormous trust in us.
Years ago, I reached a point where I was seriously questioning whether I wanted to continue in the profession. I was operating my father’s investigative and security firm while simultaneously running my specialized security and surveillance equipment company, and I began considering whether I should leave investigations altogether, perhaps attend law school, focus on growing my equipment business, or pursue something completely different.
During that time, I came across a quote that stopped me in my tracks:
“Never forget, you may be the answer to someone’s prayers.”
Those words affected me more than I can adequately describe. They reminded me that behind every case file is a real person, a real family, and a real problem. Someone is waiting for answers. Someone is hoping for help. Someone is praying that the right person will step into their situation and make a difference. And that person may be me.
That realization changed my perspective. It reminded me that this profession is not simply about investigations. It is about service. It is about helping people navigate uncertainty and finding the truth when they need it most. I have never forgotten that lesson, and it continues to guide the way I approach every case to this day.
One of the most important lessons I have learned over the years is that reputation is your most valuable asset. In this profession, trust is everything. Clients are often hiring you during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. They need confidence that the person they hire will act professionally, ethically, and with their best interests at heart.
While I am proud of the growth of our firm and the cases we have worked on, what I am most proud of is the impact our work has had on others. Helping reunite families, locating missing loved ones, recovering abducted children, assisting crime victims, and providing answers to people facing uncertainty is far more meaningful than any title or accomplishment.
If there is one thing I would want people to know about me, my company, and our story, it is that our work has always been about people. Behind every investigation is a person, a family, a business, or a life affected by uncertainty. Our mission is to provide clarity, truth, and peace of mind when it matters most. After more than forty years in this profession, I remain just as committed to that mission today as I was when I first began.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m somewhat of a foodie, so if my best friend were coming to Dallas for a week, food would definitely be a major part of the itinerary.
The first stop would have to be Hutchins BBQ. Growing up in El Paso, I learned that some places simply do certain foods better than anyone else. Just as it’s hard to beat the Mexican food in El Paso, it’s hard to beat authentic Texas barbecue in Dallas, and Hutchins is one of my favorites.
For a great meal with an incredible view of the city at night, I’d take them to Perry’s Steakhouse downtown. If we’re looking for a true Dallas night out, dinner at Al Biernat’s Oak Lawn is always a great choice. For dinner and entertainment, La Stella Italian Steakhouse or Delilah would definitely make the list.
Outside of restaurants, we’d spend some time exploring the city. I’d start with Reunion Tower for its incredible panoramic views of Dallas, then head over to Sidecar Social or the rooftop bar at Upside West Village, where you can enjoy great food, drinks, and some of the best skyline views in the city.
For something a little different, we’d visit The Cosm at Grandscape and catch a UFC fight or a sporting event. The immersive experience is unlike anything else I’ve seen outside of Vegas, and is a great example of how Dallas continues to embrace innovation and entertainment.
And because I’m a firm believer that every great trip should include some time on the water, we’d finish the week with a jet boat ride on Lake Ray Hubbard. There’s nothing quite like being out on the lake with friends, enjoying the Texas sunshine, and taking in the view.
One of the things I enjoy most about Dallas is that it offers a little bit of everything—world-class dining, professional sports, great entertainment, beautiful lakes, and a tremendous amount of opportunity. It’s a city that’s constantly growing and evolving, which is one of the reasons I’ve enjoyed building my business and calling Dallas my new home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A few people have played important roles in my life and career, but none more significant than my parents.
My father introduced me to the investigative profession and demonstrated what it means to dedicate yourself to your work. Watching him build a reputation that became recognized around the world taught me the importance of perseverance, professionalism, and treating every client with respect.
My mother provided the support, stability, and encouragement that allowed our family to navigate the unique challenges that often come with this profession.
While my father was my greatest teacher and the person who had the most profound influence on my life and career, I am also deeply grateful to the countless clients from across the United States and around the world who placed their trust in my father, myself, and our firms during some of the most challenging moments of their personal and professional lives. The confidence they placed in us carried an enormous responsibility, and it is a trust I have never taken for granted.
Above all, I give thanks to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Throughout my life and career, I have found strength, guidance, and protection through my faith. Investigative work has often placed me in unpredictable and sometimes dangerous situations, and there have been many occasions where I believe God’s hand was upon me. Any success I have achieved is ultimately the result of His blessings, grace, and protection.
