We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Cousins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, how do you think about risk?
The real estate industry is a risk in itself and can be challenging not knowing what the market will bring. Being confident in my ability to represent clients in buying and or selling homes with extensive knowledge of the marketplace, I feel that the risk lowers immensely. Regardless of those outside factors I cannot control, I find that I thrive in the unknown. I love a good challenge, and have learned that without taking risk, I cannot grow further personally or professionally. I believe life is all about taking risks!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I tend to stay very busy with showing buyers prospective homes as well as showing my own listings where I represent the sellers. Real Estate is a 24/7 job, so it is important to always be on your “a game”. When I am not out showing, I am usually in the office working on generating leads, touching base with clients, creating marketing materials and staying current on the marketplace and staying knowledgeable.

I feel that as a young, professional, woman it is extremely important to surround yourself with those that lift you up and encourage you. If someone does not support you and push you to become better as a person and professional, it is important not to allow your value to be determined by that person’s negativity. While obstacles can seem to be somewhat continuous throughout life, these strategies have helped me to surround myself with an inspiring support system of family, friends and colleagues. I am proud of who I am and who I’ll continue to grow to be in the future. Despite any obstacles I’ve faced professionally, I can confidently say I feel more successful than I ever have, and am thrilled to be a part of a top producing team at Compass. The future is bright for women, but we must always build each other up and support one another in our goals. This will allow for further greatness to be achieved by all of us! Advice I would give other women starting their journey would be to never let someone get in the way of your passion. You can achieve anything!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ohh thats a toughie! I always love hanging out around Lower Greenville Avenue since I live in the neighborhood. It’s so nice to be able to walk everywhere, especially to Leela’s Wine Bar, Truck Yard, and XOXO (I love this spot because it reminds me so much of “Sketch” in London). Javier’s & Mi Cocina for dinner is always a classic too for guests! Of course I venture over to the Katy Trail quite often to walk my Cavalier King Charles, Georgie, and stop for an occasional drink at Katy Trail Ice House-Always a classic spot to take a out-of-town guest. I would absolutely schedule lunch or dinner at least once at Oishii Sushi (my favorite sushi in Dallas-the Tribecca Roll is a MUST)! For a fun place to go at night, I love going country dancing at Cowboy’s Red River- Out of towners love it because it just screams Texas. 🙂 We would also go out to the stables to ride my horse Placido – He is stabled at Elmstead Farm which is near Southfork where the old “Dallas” show was filmed. If it’s not too hot, I love going kayaking or paddle boarding on White Rock Lake, it’s pretty, a great workout and affordable to rent. For shopping – I love going to Highland Park Village as well as NorthPark Mall which has everything!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without a doubt, I would have to recognize the one and only, Mark Cain. I started working for Mark Cain as his assistant about seven years ago and he taught me pretty much everything I know in the Dallas real estate market – from marketing techniques, contracts, showings, representing clients and the service we provide, the list goes on and on. Now fast forwarding 5 years, I am now working on Mark’s team, Mark Cain Properties Group selling as an agent at Compass Real Estate in Dallas, TX. I have grown so much in the past couple of years with confidence in buying and selling, to representing multi-million dollar homes, and even getting to co-list some properties with Mark. We just have a blast together. Our team is more like a tight-knit family and we all support each other in any way possible, but without Mark Cain, none of it would have been possible. Mark has absolutely changed my life and career for the better!
