We had the good fortune of connecting with Tito Strange and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tito, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
That’s an interesting question because I feel like it’s never really been an option for me. I’ve bounced from Job to Job working 9 to 5 everywhere. But music and being creative has been the only thing in my life that’s truly made sense as a career for me. There’s been many times when I feel it’s the only thing I’m good at. So here I am.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I never feel like the process of being successful in this industry is over. I’m still reaching for goals all the time. So obviously the process isn’t easy, especially when there’s so much competition creatively right now with music. For me overcoming challenges have been mostly mental or things I’m dealing with internally. Luckily music is a great avenue to channel any rage or sadness I have. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to get out of my own way. Making room in my mental space for the ideas to form and eventually bear fruit is a challenge. But the inherent value of a cup is it emptiness. So I try to keep that mentality when creating because when I start trying to force things to sound a certain way or to evoke certain emotions, I can completely miss the mark. My story is the story of an outsider someone that never fully felt like they fit in hence the last name strange. My goal is to be strange enough that the people that become my fans feel that it’s OK to be strange and in fact, it should be celebrated.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you’re coming to Dallas, my first thing to suggest is going to Deep Ellum obviously. It’s the heart of music in Dallas and it’s where a lot of musicians get their start here. Deep Ellum has changed a lot of over the years but it’s maintained its focus on music decently well compared to most places. For me some of the most exciting things you can do in Dallas involve live music. But I am also a nature lover, so I would recommend White Rock Lake, Oak Cliff nature preserve, and the Cedar Ridge nature preserve for nice walks and beautiful views. Other than that, my favorite place to eat is in Bishop arts and it’s a restaurant focused on organic nutritional food called Tribal.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It would be so simple for me to shout out my father and my mother. They supported me all these years and especially my father who instilled a love for music in me at an early age. But I’d like to take this opportunity to shout out my friend Eric Lara, the lead singer of the band Wolves Reign. Eric was the first person I played music with. He was the person I wrote my very first song with. He’s an opera singer and a composer and even when we were younger he pushed me to be a better writer and a musician and still does to this day. Thank you for being the absolute best friend anyone could ever ask for, Eric.
