We had the good fortune of connecting with Reginald Naulls and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Reginald, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In the beginning, I just wanted my own sneakers. I got burnt out on raffles, and paying after market prices for sneakers. It made more sense to customize my own sneakers, true 1 of 1’s. Once I started making my own designs, it was on from there. From sneakers my passion grew into custom football helmets and cleats, home decor, flyers, graphic design, illustration, painting, logos, t shirt designs. Korporate Kustomz has allowed me to channel my creativity and passion.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The art that I create is about the aesthetic, concept, feeling, and representation. I’m mostly inspired by animation, cartoons, crime, comics, hip hop, sci-fi, technology and urban streetwear. When someone looks at my artwork, I want them to feel confident, excited, and ready to knockout any challenges or oppositions that may come their way.
From my experience, the things that have helped me the most along my professional journey are putting the time in, never quitting, and wanting to win for myself. Putting the time in to improve your skills is never a waste of time. I believe you have to have success at home before, you can have success out in the world. Having success at home creates a paradigm shift. This is difference between working for validation and your works receiving validation.
Korporate Kustomz is a brand/design company that specializes in transmuting ideas into visual art. We celebrate the individuals because everything is better Kustom made.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would have to stop by Harris House or the Turkey D.A.M for something to eat and to hang out. Bar hopping in Deep Ellum is always fun, because there are so many options. The African American Museum and the Dallas Museum of Art are places I like to visit every now and again. Next to the Dallas Museum of Art is Klyde Warren Park, where you can check out the food trucks.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that I have supported me along the way. We are told be so many things from a young age, and who we become, is often a start living a dream someone else had for us. I want to dedicate this shoutout to my brothers, Bjay (@bybarronj on instagram) & Eric ( @codelikeeric on instagram); the Eta Phi Nupes (@etaphi_nupes on Instagram); and the Premier Dinner Party Group ( @thepremierdinnerparty).
Surrounding yourself with like minded individuals focused on bettering themselves and those around them is essential. Also, shoutout to anyone having the courage to follow their dreams. It is never a mistake, to have faith in yourself.
