We had the good fortune of connecting with Shakeilah Swain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shakeilah, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
Nothing in life came easy for me, so many obstacles have been thrown my way. Many people would rather play it safe, because they are afraid of failing. When truth is you are going to fail before you succeed. You have to be willing to take those chances. I want to leave behind a legacy of strength, motivation, and power. If you believe it , you can achieve it. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”-Philippians 4:13. Constantly tell your self you can do it, and believe you can do it.
The key to success is keeping your eyes on your own plate , having faith within yourself, what you do, and never ever giving up! I want people to look at me and get the motivation to keep going. I’m no different from anyone else. I didn’t grow up with money , I started working a full-time job while still in high school. By the age of 17 i was pregnant with my first child, but I continued to work , I still walked across that stage. By the age of 19 i was working two jobs, I was pregnant with my second child, taking some college courses , being a single mom and caring for two children alone. I’ve lost it all, i’ve struggled, I’ve had to take a few steps back, But I’ve always kept going.
By the age of 24 I had giving birth to 5 children. My youngest daughter was diagnosed with cancer, causing her to have to face chemo. As hard as that was for my family and I , we kept going, we pushed through. May 7, 2021 our daughter passed away, the hardest pill I have ever had to swallow. So many days I wanted to just give up on everything, but giving up is not a option! The only true way of knowing if life has a chance of moving in a certain direction is if we are willing to take those risks. It’s such joy a knowing, that i have touched so many, knowing that my legacy will be left behind. People will look back on my story and instantly get that motivation that they need, Because if I can do it so can you.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The name of my business is, Oh My Goodnesss!! Not only am I a personal chef, but I also offer catering, meal preps , and individual meals as well. Currently I am working on a cook book, and pushing to get my seasoning out and on the shelves. Also I plan to begin doing virtual cooking classes , starting in September. I love what I do and I do what I love. When It comes to cooking and preparing meals , everything is made with love. Although making money plays a huge role in running a business, I don’t do this for the money, it’s way deeper than that for me. Cooking is literally my passion, this is what comforts me, and to see the looks and smiles on customers faces when they take their first bite is absolutely everything to me.
Starting and running a business did not come easy for me personally. Some days sales were up , some days they were down. When things aren’t going the way you planned , or you aren’t getting the support you need , it often makes you want to give up. I’m here to tell you I don’t care what you are going through, DO NOT GIVE UP! Push your self , push your product. No supporters? Go get some flyers and or business cards made, every time you are out and about, pass out your cards , leave them on car windows , front doors, etc. Advertising and networking are so important when it comes to business.
Let nothing stop you, make a name for yourself. Things won’t fall into place overnight , have patience, and have faith. Manifest daily on those goals, see yourself succeeding. YOU WILL SUCCEED!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost I would like to give credit to God, because without him none of this would even be possible. Cooking has always been something that I loved to do, but I never really had the confidence in my self or my food, so I never really pushed my goals. After meeting my husband , I began expressing some of my dreams and goals to him. He motivated me to start selling my food, in the beginning I wasn’t doing so well and I gave up for a few months.
My husband stayed on to me, constantly pushing me and motivating me to do what I love. He would go to work promoting my food , it got to a point where the whole warehouse was ordering from me. That gave me the confidence I needed! I began cooking more , advertising more, and receiving more supporters. When I didn’t believe in myself my husband believed in me , he had faith I could do it, and without him I probably would not be where I am today.
Watching my daughter being diagnosed with cancer at the age of 2 , fighting Chemo for one whole year, 5 days straight every other week, loosing her foot, her hair , and still keeping a smile on her face and pushing through. To have to later have to watch her loose her life was absolutely devastating, I wanted to give it all up again, but I know my daughter strength lives within me she wouldn’t want us to quit or fail. I will keep going , I will succeed! RIH Zy’Azia.
Also, to all my followers and supporters. You guys don’t understand the motivation that you give me daily. I’m so very grateful, and excited for what’s coming. Thank you all!
