We had the good fortune of connecting with Debbie Stallings and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Debbie, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When I decided to start my Real Estate career, I knew it would be challenging and definitely not easy. But, instead of wasting my energy worrying about the future, I decided to spend my energy building my future instead. I made a choice to stop waiting for all the stars to align perfectly before taking that first step. We all need to do that…stop waiting for the right time, the right moment, the right everything. There is no better time than the moment you decide to take charge of your life. I decided to cross the lines in front of me rather than spending my life staring at them.

And I approached my Real Estate Career with this mindset. I built my business all on my own. I took charge. I worked as a solo agent for several years, and this past year I decided to start my own Real Estate Team. And while I may not be at the top yet, I certainly am on my way there. But, I also am in no rush to get to the top. I understand the important of taking pauses at each step and enjoying the view for a bit.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I worked as a solo Real Estate Agent for several years before starting my own team this past year. I decided to start my own team for several reasons. First…when the pandemic started, most people hit a stalemate in their careers. But unlike most people, I used that time to grow and evolve. I learned other ways to expand my business and make myself stand out. I taught myself new technology. I watched, I learned, and I dived in. I started seeing my worth. And in doing all this, I took pride in gaining and owning my most valuable accessory to date – confidence. I used that confidence and started to share and teach my knowledge to other agents. I became a mentor/coach and started training new agents for my broker. And, I have gained even more confidence as I’ve watched brand new agents that I’ve trained become successful in their own Real Estate careers. And my team, The Debbie Stallings Home Team, is growing too and I am excited to see what the future holds for us. I have some fantastic agents on my team, and they each bring something unique to the team.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Dallas area is full of so much rich history. I am actually in McKinney, which is a suburb just north of Dallas. McKinney’s motto is “Unique by Nature,” so the first thing I would show her would be McKinney. There are some beautiful areas in McKinney that are surrounded by trees and nature, such as Bonnie Wenk Park, the Heard Natural Science and Wildlife Museum, or Towne Lake Park. We would then take a leisurely stroll through Adriatica Village, which is an amazing area with a Mediterranean look and atmosphere. And, I can’t let the day go by without showing her historic downtown McKinney which is the cutest little “Hallmark” looking downtown area I’ve ever seen. McKinney is a growing city, but the downtown area still has that small town feeling to it. A few local eateries in downtown McKinney are The Yard, Ricks Chophouse, Harvest, or Spoons.

And, seeing as I am a Real Estate Agent…of course, I would have to take her on some home tours. McKinney has some of the most scenic neighborhoods. My favorite one is Tucker Hill, which is a community with beautiful and trendy Colonial Style homes.

And while I can’t imagine anyone getting bored with McKinney, if she did….then we would spend the rest of the week venturing out to tour the City of Dallas. Then, perhaps we would spend an evening at the Ft Worth Stockyards.

So much to do in Dallas and all the surrounding suburbs!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This is a hard question to answer because honestly, I don’t think I owe my success to anyone but myself. I wish I could say there was one person who pushed me, motivated me, and encouraged me….but there really isn’t anyone who did that. My success has been driven by those who pushed me down, failed to motivate me, and failed to encourage me. I was always the kid in school who never stood out. I was never picked or chosen. I was always overshadowed by everyone else. I got to a point where i was tired of being a nobody, and I decided to become somebody. And, I did just that. So, who deserves that credit? That honor goes to anyone and everyone who never believed in me.
