We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Castaneda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, what makes you happy? Why?
PASSION I started my business out of a hobby: creating pieces of art made out of pressed flowers. After 2.5 years basically working two full-time jobs, I was able to quit my corporate job to follow my passion. Creating art and connecting with people are what make me the happiest! This business has given me the ultimate gift: to move people in unique ways through handmade art. SURVIVAL Having to pivot my business has been one of the most scary yet rewarding this I have done. Six months after quitting my job, I saw a decrease on sales; people were not spending money in January as they did pre-Christmas. I had to change the structure of my business to serve brides more than creating random pieces of art. This shortly became even more satisfying, as I was able to bring people so much joy with their own bridal bouquets. I hired my first Full Time employee when pivoting and grew this company so much that we are now #1 in Pressed Bridal Bouquets Worldwide! 2.5 years after quitting my job, I am proud to say that we are a strong team of 13! WHAT NEXT? Covid has impacted us so much in many different ways. We not only survived covid; we thrived. Unfortunately, this Winter season has been scary slow. Not enough work for all my employees. Which calls for having to pivot again. I was feeling like a fish out of water for about a month due to the lack of inspiration, paperwork I had to handle and the little time I was able to create art. Having employees is such a huge responsibility; people depend on you and every move is important. I have had to sacrifice my daily job creating art to give my artists the opportunity to have a job. This opportunity has given me the chance to serve brides in a completely different way. By inspiring and being resourceful. I found so much passion, happiness and joy in helping others. By discovering and acknowledging that I have the resources and the audience to help others, even if it’s not necessarily with sales, I am able to provide TRUST.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We create art made out of bridal bouquets. We provide our customers their most treasured piece of art. We have worked and perfected all our techniques that we have mastered this type of art. HARD WORK. There’s a quote that says “Be obsessed or be average” and I didn’t understand it very well until now. You really have to be obsessed (passionate) with what you do so it works out. Inspiration and tenacity are KEY factors to my success Lessons learned: MANY. Every lesson is worth what you paid for it, and as a business owner you learn so many expensive lessons. From the way you do things, to the way you manage people. I want the world to know that I was meant to do this. I was meant to serve people and create joy in their lives. That we are completely committed to our customers and that we cannot wait to serve more and more people.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wow this is a hard question for me, as I have had to paused a lot of that part of my life for a while. My fiancé and I go out and eat at different restaurants on the weekends and we love and enjoy good food and good times. Not exactly sure what is out there these days for entertainment (specially with Covid). I would heavily rely on my friends over at @dallasites101 to come up with an amazing itinerary for them.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Justin Cole. My life partner (fiancé) as he’s my biggest mentor; he pushes me in every way possible to become a better version of myself. He’s an entrepreneur himself, and I have learned SO much from him Justin Cole Accelerate Auto Group firstname.lastname@example.org
