We had the good fortune of connecting with Serah Prince and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Serah, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factors behind the success of my business have been education, relationships, and a commitment to serving people well.

Education has always been a top priority for me. These days, it’s easy for someone to buy a camera, create a social media page, and call themselves a professional photographer. However, photography is a true craft that requires continual learning and practice. Investing in education has allowed me to confidently understand not just my camera, but the science and artistry behind creating beautiful portraits.

Knowing how aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and lighting work together is far more valuable than simply owning expensive equipment. The latest camera or the trendiest backdrop doesn’t create meaningful portraits—knowledge does. Understanding light, composition, posing, color, and how to guide clients into natural, flattering poses and expressions are what create images that people treasure for generations.

I believe learning never stops. Throughout my career, I’ve invested in workshops, conferences, certifications, and mentorship because I want to give my clients the very best experience and the highest quality artwork possible.

Relationships have been just as important. Photography is about far more than creating beautiful images—it’s about earning the trust of families during some of the most meaningful moments of their lives. When people know they are genuinely seen, cared for, and valued, they become lifelong clients and often lifelong friends.

My faith has also shaped every part of my business. I believe every person is created in the image of God and has incredible value. That perspective influences how I serve each client, from the first consultation to helping them display heirloom artwork in their home. My goal is for every family to walk away feeling more confident, more connected, and with tangible memories that will outlive all of us.

I’ve also learned that success is rarely built overnight. It comes from consistency, humility, continuing to learn, and refusing to quit when things become difficult. Every challenge has made me a better photographer, business owner, wife, and mother.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I own Serah Prince Portraits, a luxury portrait studio in McKinney, Texas, specializing in family, senior, branding, and legacy portraiture. What sets us apart is that we provide a full-service experience. Rather than simply delivering digital files, we guide clients through every step—from wardrobe planning and professional hair and makeup to designing custom wall galleries and heirloom albums that become part of their family’s legacy.

I believe photographs should be seen every day instead of remaining forgotten on a hard drive. Years from now, your children and grandchildren will not gather around a phone to remember your life. They’ll gather around albums and framed portraits that tell your family’s story.

The journey certainly was not easy. Like many small business owners, I experienced seasons of uncertainty, financial challenges, self-doubt, and learning through mistakes. Every obstacle became an opportunity to grow. I discovered that resilience is often more important than talent and that serving people well will always matter more than chasing trends.

One of the greatest joys of my career is watching families return year after year. I’ve photographed engagements that became weddings, newborns who are now graduating seniors, and families spanning multiple generations. Being trusted to preserve those memories is both an incredible privilege and a responsibility I never take lightly.

If there’s one thing I want people to know, it’s this: your story matters. You don’t need to wait until life feels perfect to document it. The ordinary moments we sometimes overlook today often become the memories we treasure most tomorrow.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend came to visit North Texas for a week, I’d start by exploring Historic Downtown McKinney. We’d spend the morning walking around the charming square, browsing locally owned boutiques, enjoying coffee, and discovering the unique character that makes McKinney so special.

For breakfast, we’d stop at Harvest, and for barbecue, Hutchins BBQ is an absolute must. We’d also make time for Local Yocal because it’s one of my favorite places to enjoy a great meal while supporting local businesses.

One afternoon would be spent at the Historic McKinney Cotton Mill, where my portrait studio is located. The building is filled with incredible history, beautiful architecture, and creative businesses. It’s one of the most unique places in North Texas.

We would also spend time at Adriatica Village, walk around the lake, and enjoy dinner while taking in the European-inspired atmosphere. Another evening would include live music somewhere around McKinney or nearby Frisco.

For families visiting with children, I’d recommend spending a day at the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary, followed by ice cream in downtown McKinney.

North Texas has grown tremendously over the years, but what I love most is that it still feels like a community. The people, local businesses, churches, and family-friendly atmosphere are what truly make this area feel like home.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people who deserve credit for where I am today.

First, my husband, Jason. He has believed in me from the beginning, encouraged me through difficult seasons, celebrated every victory, and reminded me that the work I do matters. His support has allowed me to pursue this dream while raising our family.

I also owe so much to my parents. They taught me the value of integrity, hard work, serving others, and keeping Christ at the center of everything. Those lessons became the foundation of both my life and my business.

Professionally, I am incredibly grateful for the Professional Photographers of America and Texas School of Professional Photography. The education, mentorship, and friendships I found there challenged me to continually raise my standards and pursue excellence.

Finally, I would dedicate this shoutout to my clients. Families invite me into some of the most meaningful seasons of their lives—from engagements and weddings to maternity, newborns, graduating seniors, and multi-generational family portraits. Their trust is the greatest compliment I could ever receive.
