We were fortunate to catch up with some brilliant artists, creatives and entrepreneurs from throughout the Houston area and they share the wisdom with us below.

“I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.” – Pablo Picasso I have always loved this quote. In fact I have it framed in my living room not only as a reminder to myself, but now for my own kids too. I think a lot of us put off trying something new because we know we will not be very good at it at first. Being a beginner is scary! Especially if you have any sort of social media presence, no one wants to show up looking mediocre, or worse, kinda terrible. Read more>>

Mikaela Green | Boxing Trainer

Although it may sound simple, I love the quote, “Just do it.” Whenever I find myself hesitating out of fear, I remind myself to get out of my head and take action. We are often our own worst enemies, easily getting stuck in the cycle of talking or thinking about our plans without ever putting them into action. This straightforward phrase serves as a powerful reminder to get started. Whether it’s launching a business, picking up a new hobby, starting a new job, or simply breaking out of your comfort zone, “Just do it” encourages us to push past uncertainty and take that first step. Zav Paul | Gamer & Fashion Designer

The process of coming up with the idea for my clothing brand business was quite extensive. I initially considered various names but ultimately decided to go with my name, Zav Paul. I chose this name because it holds personal significance to me, representing a sense of family and authenticity that I want to convey through my brand. The mascot for my brand is a Chicken Nugget from space, inspired by my favorite food, which crash-landed on Earth. This mascot is meant to evoke feelings of nostalgia and childhood memories from cartoons and video games. Read more>>

Daniel Rosales | Pastry Chef

For myself, giving up has never been an option. I have big goals and dreams, and I plan to achieve them! Even when I hit road blocks or setbacks, that does not mean it’s the end, it just means I need to work a little harder to get back on track. If I don’t believe in myself, why should anybody else believe in me? Nothing great is ever going to happen overnight, but when you put in the discipline and hours to reach whatever you’re trying to achieve, that makes the feeling of accomplishment so much sweeter. Andreea Bălăoiu | Creative Director

My professional creative path emerged not long ago, only two years ago, actually. I have always had creative interests; however, I never fathomed this would become a path I would viscerally and wholeheartedly embrace as my form of artistic self-expression. Growing up I was a recluse, I kept to myself and surrounded myself with books, music and cultural aspects that inspired me to become introspective and search for deeper meanings within everything I see around me. Kyanni Aguirre | Founder of Girls New to North Dallas

Bridging the Gap: Overcoming the Fear of Making New Friends One common misconception about our social club, Girls New to North Dallas, is the fear many women have about attending our events. I grew up in South Texas and moved to the DFW area about 25 years ago. I have no formal business training. In fact, I have a Master’s Degree in environmental management. After college I worked with the state of Texas environmental agency (TCEQ). I ended that career when my daughters were born, eventually homeschooling them. I have always dreamt of having a store. I started with making a few crafts and then selling clothing online. Read more>>

Steve Chadie | Recording Engineer, Mixer, Producer

My family is originally from Boston, Mass. I spent the first 10 years of my life traveling overseas due to my father’s job. I was never in one place long enough to feel like I was a part of anything or to feel like there were any roots in any specific place we lived. When we moved to Texas in 1978 I was 10 and I was already a loner. I think that has benefits to it as there are long periods of time where I’m alone in the studio or on the road for a gig and I’m ok with that. Read more>>

Eliza C Gray | Renaissance Woman & Founder of HENI Magazine

I would say being my authentic self in everything that I do. I am very thoughtful and purposeful about every collaboration and event. I also love supporting businesses that align with my values. I don’t like to take life too seriously and try my best to maintain warm welcoming energy. I am not saying I am perfect by any means, but I have been in fashion for over 8 years, so it is very important to me to have the energy that I didn’t get when I was starting out. Read more>>
