We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Rosales and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
For myself, giving up has never been an option. I have big goals and dreams, and I plan to achieve them! Even when I hit road blocks or setbacks, that does not mean it’s the end, it just means I need to work a little harder to get back on track. If I don’t believe in myself, why should anybody else believe in me? Nothing great is ever going to happen overnight, but when you put in the discipline and hours to reach whatever you’re trying to achieve, that makes the feeling of accomplishment so much sweeter.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was lucky enough to know at a very young age what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I am a pastry chef, a cake designer, and overall edible artist. It’s my craft that I’ve been practicing for 12 years now since high school, but most importantly, I’m still practicing! We are never done learning. There is always something new to learn everyday, and I will never be able to learn absolutely everything anytime soon. That is the mindset that I put first every time I step into a new kitchen, new job, work with new people or pastry chefs, or even just browsing through social media of other artists.
It hasn’t always been easy working for what I want, and it shouldn’t be! I’ve gotten to where I am with my career and art because no matter what, I do not stop working towards my goal. Through working long days and coming home to work on home orders overnight, to working events for weeks straight without days off, even when you have to pour literal blood, sweat, and tears into getting what you want, it is SO worth it in the end. I still have days where I feel like I’ve hit a creative roadblock or want to give up because things aren’t going as planned, but one thing that my parents have instilled in me my entire life was an unwavering work ethic. I pride myself on being someone who will always say, “yes I can,” so I DO. And when I finally do, I take a step back, admire my work and growth, and bask in the glow of pride and joy seeing my work bring joy and excitement to the world!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooooh the Dallas Arboretum is definitely on the list! It’s so beautiful to explore no matter what time of the year it is. Sweet Tooth Hotel is also a FABULOUS art museum with colorful and interactive works of art, all from mixed media artists!
Most of my other favorite spots are food related. We’d 100% have to go The Biscuit Bar for breakfast. They are to die for and the biscuits are SO GOOD. Also Carte Blanche for phenomenal croissants and pastries!!
We’d definitely go to The Mexican in the Design District, and Restaurant Beatrice in Bishop Arts for dinner and drinks. And for dessert, we’d hit up Better Than Sex in Downtown Plano for a sweet and boozy finish to a fun evening! Whenever munchies hit, I would absolutely have to hit up Cinnaholic for decadent, warm cinnamon buns with customizable toppings (dessert, breakfast, or a treat yo self snack! No one’s judging.)
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to my best friend, Abby, who has loved and supported me and my ambitions for the last 10 years since we met in high school. I also want to give a shoutout to my assistants, Jenna & Tanvi, who have helped me build my name and bring many of my ideas to life in the last couple years!
