We had the good fortune of connecting with Will Massanet and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Will, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Creating value. And I don’t mean just cranking out content & calling it “valuable” to the client’s demographic. It’s a chaotic soup of balancing trends, niche markets, authenticity, budgets, & metrics. Being inherently “art brained”, most of those things didn’t come naturally; just a lot of hard work, time & dedication on my part.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My style: high contrast imagery, energetic colors & line work, competing story telling.

My journey as a professional starts all the back to when I was a kid drawing on my parents walls. They nurtured that mark-making instinct all my life, I’m pretty fortunate for that.

After college, I landed an art director gig for about 4 years, then left to peruse freelance. Since then, it’s been all roses. Lol, just kidding. It’s been wild! I went from working out of my studio apartment trying to pay just enough to avoid repossessions from banks, to having a studio & steady work; & I’m working with some of my favorite local brands & businesses. I’m most proud of that, for sure.

What should you take away about my brand & story? Work with me & You’ll get professional graphics, quality service, & a hardworking designer who doesn’t quit.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being in St. Louis, people would think: “oh the arch, a cardinals game, and going to the Budweiser brewery” – but nah. This city’s got so much more than that!

Food: Gramophone sandwiches; Pappy’s BBQ; Nudo House ramen; Layla burger

Drinks: Crow’s Nest; Takashima Record Bar; Venice Cafe; Pagan Wine Bar- Pagan is a hidden gem in this city, you’re welcome.

Visit: The City Museum; Red Flag; Botanical gardens; Sk8 Liborius skate church.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh I have to shout out my studio mate Dane McCrary, and our good friend Chris Bauer. Both are insanely talented photographers. A lot of my recent progress & jobs are thanks to them.
