We had the good fortune of connecting with Wes Linsley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
One of the most rewarding things about getting to know so many entrepreneurs and creatives is seeing first-hand how many of them are focused on so much more than just financial results. So many of the folks we connect with are focused on having a positive social impact on their community or the world at large. Can you talk to us about how you are helping the community?
Alpha Family Fitness is a place that makes fitness fun and challenging, something that you can share with friends and family! That is what we are known for, it’s a community designed for everybody. We know if fitness and health isn’t something that is fun and an experience you can’t share with your loved ones, it’s likely not going to last. So we do our best to make this place a second home for others! We have two different programs, our Alpha Strength and Conditioning class and our Boxing class, which is the home of the original Wylie Boxing Club, established in 2007. Both programs have adult and kid’s classes available and are often times occupied with families working out together. That is my favorite thing to see. Our boxing program is the top boxing gym in the area and is known as Wylie Boxing Club. This program has produced over 20 Golden Glove Champions, two World Champions, and several other tournament champions in the amateur circuit. As a family, Alpha Family Fitness and our members take pride in reaching out to our neighbors and surrounding communities and helping when there is a need. We have come together and raised funds for our local school supporting Rachel’s Challenge and have sponsored children when in need, our last child we helped was a donation of 3k to help out with “life” during her senior year while fighting Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. We know it’s not about how small or big an act is, but the impact that it may have and the mark it may leave on an individual. We want everyone to feel like they have a place in this world, especially when things are tough. Alpha Family Fitness provides the home of so many individuals of great character and big hearts that we feel lucky to be a part of. It is our members that honestly help this place impact our surrounding community by leading with integrity, grit and love for humanity.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I was 26 years old I was working for a small personal training studio making very little money. I was in a very difficult spot personally and financially. One day I was finishing a session with a client and she asked me if I ever thought about opening up my own gym. At the time the thought never even crossed my mind. She told me based off her experience with me, she thought I would do great! After several days of thinking about it, I thought I’d give it a shot. There was a spot down the street for rent. I leased that spot in June 2007 and never looked back. here we are over 13 years later, in a much larger gym, in the same town. I’m very proud of what Alpha Family Fitness has accomplished and what it is. We have an amazing community of young people and adults. Alpha Family Fitness is the longest standing small gym in the Wylie, Sachse, Murphy area. I’ve learned along the way the best way to bring people in and keep them is to treat them like family. Alpha Family Fitness is as much their family as it is ours.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a small business owner I also try our best to support other small business. If I had a guest in town I would take them to Jhonny’s in Wylie. Jhonny’s is a little mexican restaurant and family owned. They have great food, and excellent margaritas! The bonus, is it is happy hour all the time!! They have been putting up with out little four year old, Finn, since he was just months old! Another great spot is Bankhead Brewing Co., located in downtown Rowlett. They have amazing food and incredible craft beer, also with great hospitality. These two places are my favorites spots, for the food, for the drinks but always for the people that work there!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
100% my shoutout goes to my amazing wife. There’s absolutely no doubt in my mind, our gym wouldn’t be what it is today without her standing by my side. Her drive, determination, and relentlessness for success is unparalleled.
