We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanaka Isheanesu Tava and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tanaka Isheanesu, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my “success” has been God and various people who believed in my potential. I am only here, where I am, because of them. My parents, my aunties, my uncles, my family members, my friendships, my mentors. They all loved on me, shared their lessons, and gave me their most valuable resource ever. Their time and energy.

I will never ever take that for granted. I am exist on the shoulder of giants.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the Founder and Creative Director of Tava Multimedia Group – an innovative media company integrating technology, entertainment, and design to inspire the masses.

TMG has three branches:

1. Iconic: Luxury Streetwear, my Streetwear fashion brand that creates affordable luxury t-shirts made out of sustainable materials.

2. Iconic Conversations: my talk show where I interview the brightest entrepreneurs, community builders, and innovators about their personal journey. Garnering 2.7 million downloads and reaching audiences in 124 counties.

3. Tava Consulting: Creative & Cultural strategy – where I help individuals and companies define their content strategy, creative direction, and marketing. Helping them communicate to most influential consumer: Gen Z people of Color.

Vision Statement: The commitment is to inspire, educate, entertain, and empower people around the world.

As an artist, my duty is to serve the masses through my voice and words. That comes through inspirational speaking, content creation, poetry, and writing.

At the core of who I am, I feel it is an obligation and duty to utilize the platform God has given me to spread consciousness and help people connect deeper to themselves in order to reach their highest level. That has always been the main intention of this endeavor.

It was not easy, it never will be, but that is what makes the journey sweeter. The journey is the reward!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots in Dallas is Green Family Foundation, Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas Contemporary. Favorite spot to eat at is Flowerchild, going down to Fair Park and Klyde Warren is always dope. Dallas is a vibe, I am always so excited!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother, I would love to mention, she gave birth to me and her feriocious passion of reading piqued my curiosity, especially when it comes to psychology, human relationships, and making your dreams come true.

My tete Michelle Tava. She is the glue of my family dynamic, and if it was not without her consistent and unconditional love, I do not know where I would be. Her story inspires me so much, and she has overcome so much in her life, but leads life with so much positivity, transparency, and authenticity.

Some dear friends I would like to mention are Esrael Yohannes and Raymond Mumbo Williams. These two men of God helped me push towards my limit. Nearly every day during Covid-19 Pandemic, I would be up on the phone with them discussing my business strategy, ideating on editing concepts, applying to incubators and accelerators. They held me accountable, called me forward with honest direction, and elevated me to think higher of myself. Outside of my immediate family, they have seen me at my lowest depths, and celebrated me at my highest heights, along with taking it easy on the mellow mundane moments.

My two best girl friends, women who showed me the deepest love that no man can imagine in a platonic way since before any external recognition Beatriz Ann Raroque and Sophia Gabriella Elsadig. They’ve known me and seen me grow since 12 years old. 12 years of deep friendship, where we stood by each other, cried together, laughed together, argued, and encouraged deeply. Outside of my sisters (Nicole, Ivana, Zuva and Naya) – I would take a bullet for them.

Major love to my creative circle of fellow God-fearing innovators – Maryse Lango Bombito Blunt, Onyiyechi Clare Ogamaka, Bisi Otulana, Jhefferson “Judah”Blunt, Jaden Treasure, David Joseph Briseno Jr. Johnathan Ashe, Payton Nicole Bell, Nathan Cumberbatch, Kaleb Mulugeta, and Reggie Singletary. Their creativity, dedication to their craft, and living their life on mission has been so riveting. Celebrating their success has been one of my greatest joys!

My mentors Wayne Hampton, Michael Rodriguez, Jerry Dimanche, EJ Hibbler, Nick Jim Sherriff, Jakkia Hollingsworth, Sydney Tilger, Shannon Oldham, Olayinka Obasanya, Saba Kifle, Consuela & Mohammed Elsadig and Courtney Streat. Their endless dedication and love for me has helped me immensely. They have advocated for me, encouraged me, and blessed me with their wisdom.

Kudos to my recent colleagues of Nick Spiller, Jill Klinvex, Sid Rao, Joshua Taylor, Albert Prewitt Sanika Bhave, Alex Friedman. The universe conspires for those who commit to their personal legend. These individuals have welcomed me in the Startup & VC ecosystem with open arms. They took a chance on me and helped changed the trajectory of my professional life more than they realize.

Last without least, I want to give the deepest gratitude to the man that helped shape me with his discipline, guiding support, wisdom, and direction – Emmanuel Tava. My father, a leader. His evolution to become a better man, the original dreamer in the family, who took a chance to enter the lottery for US green card – and emigrated to the United States with mother back in 1997, changed the whole trajectory of what was possible. Being there when I was young in his offices, airplanes, phone calls – it was pivotal. He sacrificed everything and more for us – and for him I am deeply grateful.
