We had the good fortune of connecting with Sue Sisomphou and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sue, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is my roadway to success! Taking risk comes with getting out of your comfort zone and embracing change. I’ve had to learn how to rewire my brain to embrace change and look back at how much I’ve grown from taking risks. I’ve always had an idea to start my retreat business for quite sometime and finally rolled out my first retreat last quarter of 2019. 2020 pandemic hit and the thought of hosting another retreat was impossible at this point. I prayed on it and took the leap of faith.
I had to learn how to overcome the fear of failure and what people would think of my business idea. Failure does not mean I have failed but merely a lesson on how to do it better the next time around. I had to stop telling myself I’m not ready or my plan is not good enough. Simply taking action and starting is key for me and continue to learn from each mistake. The most important key factor is my why and that is to create a space and experiences for women to come together and support one another along with focus on our wellness.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We organized our first retreat in 2020 after realizing how important it is to have a safe space and dedicated time for disconnecting from the daily grind. My TRU Wellness provides our participants with opportunities to recharge their body, mind, and soul with positive energy and reconnect with themselves.
We started with a solid foundation, and have only improved our offerings. We are confident that our picturesque locations, first-class hosts, and committed community will inspire a life-changing experience.
We offer retreats for women wanting to connect with others and reconnect with themselves. Our retreat offer experiences such as hiking, yoga, meditation, cooking classes and many in-house workshops.
This journey has been truly amazing to see and hear women’s testimony as connecting with one another is what we need most during this time.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My friends know how much I love getting them to try new things and experiences. I would definitely take them to Spa Castle for a unique wellness experience and head on over to any Korean BBQ spot nearby. Katy Trail for a good walk or run then grab brunch along the trial. Gotta head on over to Trinity Grove area for a great view of Dallas and dessert at Cake Bar!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my mom and sister for showing me how hard work pays off and no task is too small or big for me to take on. I also want to thank my oldest brother, Peter, for showing me how it feels to make such an impact on people’s lives. They are no longer with us but I will continue to make them proud. Special thanks to my husband and boys for continuing to support my passion.
