We had the good fortune of connecting with Stevie Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stevie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve wanted to run my own business. It’s part of who I am, excites me, and comes naturally to me. As an adult I eventually found a passion for spray tanning. I was sick of working jobs that I didn’t love. So why not learn how to spray tan? I could make my own schedule around my family life and I knew it would be fun and something I’d be good at. It was also a simple enough of a business for me to take on by myself at first. I didn’t need employees, or a ton of money up front. Turns out it really was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. This career lights a fire in my soul and is actually something I look forward to every single day!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Bronzed Babes Airbrush Tans main goal & purpose, is to help people feel more confident with a safe & healthy sunless tan. We stand out from the rest for 3 main reasons: 1. We make it our top priority to make clients feel comfortable in what can be a vulnerable service. We know it can make people nervous to spray tan at their first appointment. Once they have come in for their first appointment, they keep coming back with zero nerves because they know that Bronzed Babes is a safe place! 2. We know how to customize a spray tan to be the perfect shade for your skin type. There is science behind the skin, & spray tan solutions, & we are trained & certified to know exactly what each client needs. 3. We offer this luxury service for an affordable cost, unlike the chain salons. We are in a private appointment only boutique setting, & offer quality one on one treatment to each of our clients with a drying powder at the end. We don’t believe it should cost a lot to receive a quality spray tan experience! How I’ve grown Bronzed Babes to where it is today, is a lot of grit, passion, & patience. It’s taken me 6 years to get it to where it is & there’s a LOT more to come. Aside from being on top of modern marketing trends, I also make sure to connect with my clients so that they want to come back & send their friends in too. I train all of my staff to do the same. It’s most important to me that our clients are happy because word of mouth referrals have probably been the biggest way we’ve grown this business. Lessons I’ve learned along the way are that slow & steady wins the race. Even when you think no one’s listening, keep posting. Even when you have a slow week, next week might be slammed out of nowhere. Even when you’re tired & feel like giving up, before you know it you will be overwhelmed with so many happy clients you will forget all about the hard parts! I want the world to know that Bronzed Babes Airbrush Tans started because I had a love for spray tanning after a melanoma scare. I wanted to make this a business so that I could help other stay out of the sun & tanning beds as well. It has grown into so much more than that though, seeing people leave with glowing skin & a huge smile on their face is what keeps me going. To all of my clients who have helped my business grow to what it is today by continuing to show your support, coming in for tans, & referring your friends, YOU are helping this dream stay alive. Thank you and we love you!
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Since my best friends & I all have kids, we do a lot of family friendly stuff around the DFW area! When my best friend came to visit we took them to the Frisco Rail Yard for dinner, drinks, & live music. We loved taking them to the Fort Worth Stock Yards, and Epic Waters water park too! We love Movie house & Eatery in McKinney, Haywire for dinner at Legacy West, On sunny days we love renting boats on Lake Lewisville and taking friends and family out for a couple hours on the water, & do some tubing. I could go on! There’s so much to do around here we love it.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shout out my husband for always being so supportive of my business, helping me with the life/work balance, giving me business tips, and of course being my handy man.
