We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacy Markow and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stacy, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
This is a tough call, and it’s one I’ve made on both sides over the years, but what keeps me going is enjoying what I’m doing. There will always be periods of discomfort with growth, and it won’t ever be linear, but if I can see incremental improvements in myself and my work, that is what keeps me going, even through the tough times.

When to give up for me is simple, if a situation is unhealthy, destructive, toxic, and/or emotionally distressing that’s when I give up and do something else.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m a Dallas Fort Worth based Commercial Photographer specializing in Interior and Architecture Photography. I create beautiful photography for interior designers, architects, and luxury vacation rental owners, so they can build their portfolios and attract their dream clients.

This venture is my encore career, before this I spent two decades in the hospitality industry. I think what sets me apart from others is my focus on customer service. I deeply care about my clients and want them to succeed in all things. It brings me such joy to see their businesses thrive.

I embarked on this journey by working to build a portfolio last year, and once I had a workflow down I started reaching out and introducing myself to potential clients. My business is really starting to pick up, which is thrilling.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is the success of my business is strongly attributed to my marketing efforts, so I make sure to spend time daily introducing myself to potential clients, marketing my work on social media, and attending networking events.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve been a Dallas resident for 10 years, and this city has changed so much in that time I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface. The first place I would take my best friend is to the Dallas Arboretum, and maybe squeeze in an early morning walk around White Rock Lake, it’s one of my favorite places in the city to spend time outdoors and be in nature.

We’d definitely spend some time in downtown Dallas checking out the Dallas Art Museum and Nasher Sculpture Center. A visit to Deep Ellum is a must for me, because I love comedy shows and the the tacos at Revolver Taco Lounge. I love taking friends to Lower Greenville for cocktails at Hide, burgers at Standard Service, gelato at Botolino, and the pastries and doughnuts at Carte Blanche are my favorite in the city right now. Bishop Arts is another favorite hangout spot of mine, I loved the dinner I had last month at Lucia (bar is for walk ins, so don’t let the reservation system scare you off), and NEONY Pizza Works is making amazing pizza right now, so worth a visit.

We’d have to spend a day in Fort Worth at the Stockyards, because every out of towner wants to see a cowboy, and I think Fort Worth is the best place to see a man in a cowboy hat and boots.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband Dylan. His unwavering love and unconditional support has allowed me to grow and prosper in ways I never imagined were possible. I’m grateful everyday for his kindness and companionship.
