We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebekka Ling and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebekka, what principle do you value most?
My core belief is to always remain true to your authentic self and your values, in every area possible. Choose the higher path. Even if it brings challenges, ’cause it’s not the easiest one to travel. It can get lonely to not compromise. Sometimes you have to reset yourself and let go of certain ideas or people that block those beliefs. Stay in alignment and it will flow in the end. Bringing out the best in you/your purpose and career.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

What sets me apart in my music and career is that I don’t pretend to be someone other than me, in my sound, voice or songwriting and artistic descisions. That doesn’t mean I don’t have a variety of sounds and musical interests to express myself. I like being challenged, take risks and stay open. That’s what makes this music life exciting!

I’m mostly proud of having built a solid community/fanbase of longevity that supported me over the years for what I have to tell in my songs because they can relate to it. Yes, it’s been an intense journey at times, no matter the struggles for any artist, I always get revived to keep going or new people and certain fellow artists/creative friends reach out to encourage or be encouraged and join forces. That’s powerful. You can reach alot and make a difference in ‘the industry’ as a movement, if you share a higher goal.

Lately my work and collaborations in music and film have taken to a new level, I’ve been travelling more as well. Sometimes it also means to let go of the familiair, be by yourself to grow. It’s okay to not always be in the picture. We need it to create, live life by ourselves and loved ones. It’s where we draw our inspiration from.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m original not from Texas, but from Amsterdam Netherlands. A part of my label/management team is based in Dallas. I’ve been to Michaels and had a ton of fun there, listening to live music, dance and enjoy good food so I would definitely take my best friend there. Also, hang out at The Music Factory. I loved that area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Firstly, I would be nowhere without the Most High Creator. It’s nothing but grace that I’m still here today, being able to create, give back what was given to me in gifts/talents. And to be a vessel, expressing myself, connecting to others. I’m inspired by the greats in music that paved the way in making a difference with their art. Wayne Shorter, Prince, Marvin, Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway, Stevie, EWF etc. I believe we’re here to reflect His light on earth as long as we’re around, uplifting and encouraging humanity in the form that comes most natural to you. My tool happens to be music and art.
