We had the good fortune of connecting with Priscilla George and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Priscilla, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I knew that I wanted the next chapter of my life to be more about my goals and dreams. It was time for the gardener to become the garden. I combined my passion for fashion with my African American roots in an effort to create a lane for POC to shine in haute couture / African street wear from my point of view,
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Munah in youruba means “favored by destiny”, I knew fashion was home for me and while it did take a lot of hard work and sleepless nights, I am proud of the journey thus far. Since inception during the middle of the pandemic, I knew I would one day have my fashion designs on runways and in magazines, still working on that billboard! The hardest part is believing in yourself truly confidence is essential to any fashion brand. I worked hard to find my creative voice messed up along the way, but the journey continues when you are walking in your destiny and purpose. ‘chop life’ ! in other words live your life eat the fruits you bare, share and follow your dreams!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Besides the fabric district on Perth Street, because she loves me! We would totally miss breakfast and go to brunch at Blue Mesa Grill for the bottomless mimosas and food, followed by the Escapology escape room for a little team building. Grab some sushi at Raj sushi because they are top notch. We would definitely soak up some culture at the African American Museum followed by a stop for some great wings at Wings world on MLK. Cannot let her leave without dancing the night away at Heroes Lounge on Stemmons Fwy.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother Rebecca and father Joseph George who sacrificed it all for me to even have an opportunity to be here in America doing what I love in fashion. As young dreamers they left our home county of Freetown Sierra Leon to make a better life for themselves. Imagine leaving everything you’ve ever known, the sacrifices they made for my brothers cannot be expressed in words only actions. I am the fashion designer I am because of them.
