We had the good fortune of connecting with Patty Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patty, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factors behind my success would be my dedication, focus and determination to achieve my goals. Starting at a very young age, I began working two jobs to pay my way through fashion design school, and through perseverance, received my bachelors degree from Los Angeles Trade-Technical College. Working in the garment industry taught me how to excel under pressure and that every problem has a solution. I believe that anything is possible if you are willing to work hard enough for it. With the successful relocation of The Magic Needle Piercing Studio, I am now able to further pursue my passion for the fashion industry in my own community. My newest business endeavor, Atomic Misfits Boutique, will be a Rockabilly/Punk Rock/Kustom Kulture boutique and is set to open its doors June 13 at our previous location at 208 E. Virginia St.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others in the piercing industry is that my staff and I are not about the instant monetary gratification but rather the creative art. Having been a fashion designer, I developed a well trained eye for art and fashion. The Magic Needle Piercing Studio prides itself on the very art of piercings, their unique placements and our commitment to perfection while delivering care to our clients. Our passion far exceeds the initial piercing and extends through follow-up, aftercare, infection prevention and treatment. After quickly establishing a loyal clientele basis, we outgrew our first location within just one year. I am very excited that our new beautiful location at 211 N. Tennessee St. will offer more room for growth and space for accommodating our amazing clientele.

In all honesty, I never knew my whim to try Texas would have led me to where I am today. As difficult as it was to leave my home state, it was definitely worth it. I feel that Texas has offered me opportunities and success that I could not have earned in California. A lesson I have learned, is the importance of being surrounded by inspiring, trustworthy people who will support and encourage you to achieve your goals. I am proud of the success I have accomplished despite being a Latina from LA, and will continue in my pursuit of the American dream in my new found home of Mckinney, TX.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First of all, any guest of mine will be well fed in the many wonderful places to eat in Mckinney; starting with The Pantry Restaurant on Louisiana St. Owned by Cleo and Tom Meredith, they are some of the town’s coolest people. El Mejor, Filter[ed], and C.T. Provisions are my other favorite restaurants that I may take a guest. The square in Historic Downtown Mckinney is always a go to as I love all the antique stores and boutiques, such as The Native.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout belongs to my mom who was a very strong influence and role model in my life. She taught me the importance of education and independence, especially financial. I would not be the driven female that I am today if it was not for my Mother.

Coming from a long family line of creativity, my brothers always supported my talents and encouraged me to pursue my dreams.

And last, but definitely not least, The Magic Needle Piercing Studio would not look as amazingly beautiful as it does if it wasn’t for my other half. Jimmy, thank you for everything you do for the business while accepting my crave for new endeavors.
