We had the good fortune of connecting with Ms. Mack and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ms. Mack, you love what you do. It’s clear to anyone who knows you. Why and what about your work do you love so much?
I love being an entertainer as it allows for a freedom of expression that isn’t necessarily possible in my everyday life. As I grow into a greater understanding of the the dichotomy between person and persona; it continues to drive me into the further exploration into “who” I really am.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My music career can best be described as a happy accident. I came into the industry with very limited experience rather than having a breakout moment after years of performing after a chance meeting at my day job. After building a bit of steam, just one year into the project, I found myself without a band and having to start back from square one. I spent the next six months depending on “hired guns” and searching for the building blocks of the “brand”. The first chapter was the most challenging chapter but it made way for incredible growth despite the past failures. I’m blessed to have the support of an incredibly talented group of musicians who have helped this project flourish beyond my dreams. Most recently the fruits of our labor landed us on stage at ACL Moody Theatre opening up for the legendary Kool and the Gang! If there’s any lesson to be learned here it’s that, God doesn’t call the qualified, he qualifies the called.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
A week would be plenty time to explore what the local scene has to offer and live music would be high on that list of priorities. Luckily, not a day goes by without music being available somewhere, so my tour would include a hot spot from each corner of the city coupled with some local eats to seal the deal! North: Oskar Blues Brewery + Michi Ramen East: The Skylark Lounge + The People’s Soul Food trailer West: C-Boys Heart & Soul + Magnolia Cafe South: The Far Out Lounge & Stage + Fowl Mouth food trailer

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Huge thanks to my band, the “Daddies”. Over the last two years, they’ve dedicated their blood, sweat and tears to build the brand into what it is today! Without Leland, Lauren, Alex, Stephen and Charles sharing their talents and believing in my own, I wouldn’t imagine it possible to achieve so many goals in so little time.
