We had the good fortune of connecting with Michele Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michele, how have you been affected by Covid-19?
We work with adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities across the state of Texas. Normally, they’re seen in group homes, day programs, and in private homes. The COVID-19 crisis has changed that as many are now closed to therapists. So, we had to do a quick pivot to the world of teletherapy. For most of us, this was a whole new world, so it took training and practice to make it work. Fortunately, our amazing therapists quickly made the switch, and we are now successfully treating clients all over the state with Speech, PT, and OT!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Soundly Speaking Therapy Services, PLLC, has been in business since 2014. We are based in Rockwall, Texas, but proudly serve clients around the state of Texas. Our hearts belong to the adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and they are who we specialize in. Back in 2014, we started offering Speech Language Pathology services, but quickly responded to requests for Physical and Occupational Therapies as well. We now contract with over 120 agencies across Texas and see clients in day programs, group homes, and private homes.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our Assistant Director of Clinical Operations, Abigail Elmore, was instrumental in our pivot to teletherapy. She worked with all of our therapists, setting up and training them on their Zoom accounts, verifying families that wanted to try teletherapy, assigning caseloads, etc. We could have never pivoted to teletherapy without Abigail! She’s our unsung hero of the COVID-19 crisis!
