We had the good fortune of connecting with Meagan Ortiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meagan, what do you want people to remember about you?
I would want my legacy to be, “that you can be something out of nothing”.It doesn’t necessarily mean you will be a billionaire, but you will make it in your own way. God did that for me, time and time again. I want people to know that we all have a purpose here on earth. We have a choice If we’re going to fulfill that purpose or let circumstances take it from us. We don’t have to force what’s for us. I want people to always know that I always put God first.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a bridal special/ Stylist. I have been in the industry about 7.5 years and moved to Texas 2.5 years ago. My main mission and goal was to always chase my passion and everything else would follow. I never wanted to be behind the chair 6 days a week from 7-9. I knew there was so much more this industry had to offer for me personally and I was going to find it. Easy, was not an option for me. I put myself through school while working 2nd/3rd shift jobs. Assisting in one part of the state and working straight through my weekends in another just to make ends meet. Giving up wasn’t an option, being the best me was. I say every sleepless night or struggle to pay bills happened to build character and trust in God. We are not just hairstylist we do so much more !
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
So if my best friend (sajayda) came to Texas, which she is planning on it, or I’ll be making her lol. We are food lovers so of course I have to make her mess up her diet and start there. BBQ at Hard eights! I know it’s a little outside of Fort Worth, but well worth the drive. If your coming to Fort Worth you have to see the stock yards. Smell some Leather and see a random longhorn in the middle of the road. It’s all about the good times and experience of Texas. Some Of my favorite restaurant right now are (STIRR, los molcajates and blue sushi.)
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Where do I begin. I always give thanks to God, but there are also so many amazing people that have been used in my path to help me along the way. My first memory I have from beginning this career journey started in hair school with Mrs. donata, my first phase Italian teacher lol. She was a loving little lady and straight to the point all in one breath. Foundation is key, so without a good foundation everything else would be weak. My support system was small at the time, but even if it was encouraging me (sajayda farmer, Johnette Gonzalez and my grandmother Anna Milano) they were right by my side. My first mentor ship was under Sara clemente and Jackie at a well know salon Warren Tricomi. This time in my life was most impactful in my career, because this is where I learned who I wanted and did not want to be in the industry. So thank you for each and everyone of you. Even if you don’t realize it, your effects last a lifetime.
Sorry I don’t have to many active fun photos lol. If this doesn’t work I can find another.
