We had the good fortune of connecting with Leticia Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leticia, what do you attribute your success to?
The utter most important factor to my success is definitely the support from my family & my husband from the very beginning. Starting with my decision of not wanting to go to college, I had told my parents that I didn’t want to go to college, like my older sister did. I wanted something to do with my cosmetology license, I didn’t know what but I wanted to be in the beauty industry for sure. To be quite honest, I felt disappointed in myself at the time for not wanting to go to college for the pure fact that my parents migrated from Mexico to the United States. They worked incredibly hard to make sure we were always taken care of, had the education to have a successful career and live the best life we could. At the time, choosing beauty over college was frowned upon and I remember a counselor in my high school telling me “I would be unsuccessful in life unless I had a college degree.” Despite any and all of that, my parents were very supportive into my decision and simply said, “Si es lo que quieres, hazlo mija” (Meaning, If that’s what you wanna do hun, then do it”. They continue to be one of my biggest supporters for making any of this happen. They supported me when I had to travel 2.5 hour commute through 3 trains, 1 bus, and 1 uber for a whole year just to get to work everyday and another 2.5 hours to get back home for a job that I didn’t know would be the beginning of my whole career today. The day I decided to open my business, my husband and family were there every step of the way helping my dream come true, all they ever wanted from me was to see me happy doing what I love most and succeeding at it. They will always be an important factor to my success in my business, as without them I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Its kind of crazy actually, I didn’t know that this is what I wanted to do when I was in school getting cosmetology license. I really thought I just wanted to be a makeup artist. Though, I remember having an obsession over eyebrows. I loved how eyebrows shaped someone’s face and the detail of eyebrows in general. So, after high school I decided to work for Ulta Beauty as their Brow Technician at the Benefit Brow Bar. I waxed eyebrows all day everyday and I loved it, but I began to feel fascination over waxing in general, even though I enjoyed waxing eyebrows I began asking myself how I would feel getting into Body Waxing. Well, that is exactly what I did, I began working & specializing in Women’s Brazilian Waxing. Definitely never thought this was something I would be doing but the fact that I was able to help women become more confident in their own skin in a very unique way felt so powerful. Watching these clients leave just after a 15 minute wax feeling confident, comfortable and beautiful brought a different kind of joy for me. I also like to talk a lot, thankfully so do my clients so it is never a dull or silent moment in the room. My clients are always my number one priority in and out of that room, I make sure they know that. For that reason I feel what sets me aside than most is that this isn’t just a get waxed and get out appointment, whether its 15 Minutes or 1 Hour of a service, I am fully engaged in what my clients are saying and what is going on in their personal lives. You never know what someone is going through, good or bad and I always want to make sure that they at least have me for that period of time to spill and upsetting feelings they have or if they want to brag about something amazing that has happened in their lives. I am here for it all. I love making my clients feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful in their own skin after a wax, but I also love making sure those who walk into my room, walk out either smiling or laughing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I will forever give recognition to my clients, a lot of them have pushed me into coming out of my comfort zone helping me grow and shape into the person I didn’t know I wanted to be. Ruby Renteria for example, also known on Instagram as @rubyrbeauty_ , she has been my client for years and has been very loyal to coming to see me monthly. She didn’t fail to mention to me nearly every time that I should just open my own business as she had hers and she saw potential in me. I was very nervous as I used to tell myself I always wanted to work for someone because I didn’t think I could EVER own my own business. It always seemed scary, until she laid it all out for me and didn’t sugarcoat a single thing. Having an insight of running a small business myself really caught my eye after seeing how it could start up and where it could take me. I really jumped right in it during the COVID pandemic breakout and I haven’t had a single regret since.

I thank Ruby for giving me insight and tips for me to start my business. She started out as a client of mine, then I became a client of hers and now we are colleagues.
Ruby deserves plenty or recognition for having a successful business as a hairstylist (I can tell you know, every time i’ve walked out of the salon i’ve LOVED my hair!), being an amazing mother and for being an amazing friend. No matter what this woman is going through she takes care of her kids, her clients, and those who are in her life and she deserves all the recognition of being an amazing business woman.
