We had the good fortune of connecting with Lamar Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lamar, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
The Jank is primarily a gourmet BBQ Sauce wholesale and retail business. We operate as a B-corporation and service based company that provides a healthier alternative in the sauce and condiment industry without compromising on the flavor.

Our non-profit Jank Nation, focuses on Social Emotional Learning, financial literacy and entrepreneurship. We provide annual scholarships to graduating seniors and outstanding individuals year round. Service is what we do.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a musician that fell into the gourmet barbecue sauce business. I have been writing and performing professionally since I was 18 years old. My musical background definitely allows me to set myself apart from others in the sauce and condiment industry. Music and performing gives me a set ok skills that allows me to bring a unique method of marketing to The Jank. However, that is just a bonus. The sauce speaks for itself.

What excites me the most is that an idea that has become a household name, has allowed me to serve and help so many people along the way. Getting to this point has not been easy and has taken me 10 plus years to get to this point. What got me here was my ignorance in business and the audacity to dream beyond my circumstances. The joy of service is something that never gets old. It definitely motivates me to get up after every obstacle and set back. What helps me press forward is the idea that worrying does not ever help the situation. I have also bought in to the fact that I can only do what I am able to do and my best will always be enough. This allows me to look for solutions instead of dwelling on whatever the problem is at hand.

The lessons I have learned along the way are to remain humble and teachable. This will allow you to pivot as needed in any situation. Also, I knew this already, but I am wise enough to know that I do not know it all.

What I want the world to know is that The Jank is about bringing people together and creating a sense of Family. It is about belonging and being a part of something greater that yourself. Service is what we do. We just happen to sell a great tasting, healthier gourmet barbecue.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have only visited DFW area a few times, but 3 Kings BBQ and Catering is my go to spot when I visit! The food is amazing!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out and give thanks to The Jank Nation! Nothing that has been achieved would be possible without the genuine love and support from The Jank Nation. I am humbled and appreciative of the opportunity to share the success with my family. I started out making something for me and it has grown into a lifestyle. The positive vibrations and support are unmatched. It feels good to be a part of the solution.
