We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Darwin-Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process was that I wanted to be able to provide services to women and men in the southern Dallas community. I researched the industry to ensure I understood the regulatory guidelines.  I obtained education in all of the areas that interested me. I started creating the vision behind the brand MedSkinMe. The actual thought became a realization because I wanted to educate minorities on anti-aging products and wellness treatments. We all know all skin does crack at some point however everyone wants to know how to preserve it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What set me apart from others is that I have the ability to be diverse and flexible. I got where I am today by working over 25 years in healthcare and by investing into real estate. This transition was not easy however I overcame challenges by sticking to my long-term goal.  I actually decided dive into the aesthetic business because I had facial hair and skin issues.  Since I had a hard time finding affordable laser hair removal providers that treated African American skin, I found myself researching and learning about various machines and treatments.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would recommend eating a Pepe Mites in Deep Elm, I would visit the House of Blues or Free Man Cajun Cafe Deep Elum to listen to a live band

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank all of those people who told me no and did not make it easy for me. Those people gave me the motivation to move forward with my dreams and to make changes. The most influential book I read was The Art of War by Sun Tzu this book changed my life forever. I would live to give a special shoutout to my husband Seymore and children Monique and Ashley for coming along this crazy ride with me. I also would like to thank my mentor in the business of beauty Amy and my dearest friend LaToya, who have both encouraged me when I did not believe in myself.
