We had the good fortune of connecting with Kellen Daniel and Ryan Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kellen and Ryan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Kellen: Without risk, there really is no reward. Personally, I wouldn’t be here talking to you right now if I didn’t take a chance on myself and my friend taking a chance on myself and Ryan to open our Dallas location. I just believed so much in everything we have going as a company, that I put all my chips in and went for it. The best decision I’ve made in my life was taking this risk.

Ryan: It’s risky to drink with us!!! Hahaha, in all seriousness, we wouldn’t be here without taking that risk, that’s how the company started. That’s how myself and Kellen got here. That’s how Derek got this far. In our business, everything is a risk.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Kellen: For myself, I think that there were definitely challenges along the way to get to the point where I am now. Whether it was driving an hour and change one way to make it to work at one of our Louisiana locations every day, to stepping away for a minute and having that hiatus be what eventually brought me back to the company and where We are currently. It also puts into perspective how far we’ve actually come as a company. Everyone’s story contributes to who we are as a company. We all have a lot of sweat equity in building this. And we get to continue to build it with our friends. That’s the best feeling.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Kellen: We’d definitely have to start out in Deep Ellum! Sneaker Politics would be home base, and from there, we would hit the streets and maybe hit Stirr, Merit coffee, or one of the many shops and restaurants in the area. We’d definitely stop by Brick and Bones for the best chicken in Deep Ellum! Hanging out with us at night isn’t for the faint of heart! We’d definitely connect with our homies Dre, Sam, Chelley, and the whole InCrowd crew. They throw some of the best events in the city and more than likely where you’ll find us when we’re not at the shop.

Ryan: We like to have fun wherever we are and whoever we’re with! It’s part of the charm of the store and the company in general. Our lifestyle is just fun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We definitely want to give a shoutout to Dallas! Thank you for taking in a couple of outsiders and making us feel at home!!! Absolutely would be nothing without the support of the city. We have so much more in store for you guys! Stay tuned.
