We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla, how do you think about risk?
Prior to starting my business, I honestly didn’t believe in taking risks. I grew up in a single parent home and my mother worked tirelessly to provide for me. So, for me, I always thought playing it safe was the way to go. At the time, I believed limited risk and liability meant creating a life of stability. My outlook on this matter didn’t change until my early 30’s. I began to realize while playing it safe felt comfortable, I wasn’t fully living in my purpose. I quickly began to realize living in my purpose would require me to take risks. Taking the risk to start my business was absolutely terrifying! Starting my business challenged me to push myself both personally and professionally. I’ve learned taking risks comes with wins and losses. However, every loss has provided a lesson to enhance my personal and professional growth. I now understand risk taking is necessary to grow and thrive in every area of my life.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Triumph Counseling Group, PLLC was created to engage, educate, and empower mental health professionals and the community. I’m most proud of the diverse services we provide. We provide online therapy services, clinical supervision to Licensed Master Social Workers, personalized business coaching, continuing education, and professional speaking services in the State of Texas. We not only serve the community, but we also provide ongoing education and support services to mental health providers. There have definitely been challenges along the way. I’m the first in my family to graduate from college and the first to become a business owner. At times I wanted to give up. I feared anything less than perfection and didn’t want others to view me as a failure. I now realize mistakes are unavoidable on the journey to success and have contributed greatly to my growth. I’ve made poor financial decisions, had some serious health scares, and at times lacked confidence in myself. I wouldn’t be who I am today without every challenge and lesson. My business literally started from nothing and I had to choose to invest in myself. I’m still amazed at the success of my business when I think about where I started. I’m living proof your dream can become reality with hard work and determination.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely love my city! Some of my favorite spots would be Soiree Coffee Bar, Dallas Farmers Market, and Trinity Groves.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mother. As a single parent she sacrificed so much. I wouldn’t be the woman I am today without her love and support.
