We had the good fortune of connecting with Kadi Sessums and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kadi, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When deciding on if I wanted to start my own business, I knew that succeeding was my only option. I invested in myself to produce strong marketing skills so that I could grow my clientele on social media. I also knew that I needed to invest myself into my clients by giving them all & providing each one with a positive memorable service.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work sets me apart from others specifically because I specialize in balayage techniques that are low maintenance so my busy clients don’t have to be worried about their hair every month they can stretch their appointments out to every 4-6 months while still having hair that looks freshly done. I educate my clients on what products to use and how to use them that fits into their hair type, color & daily life. We have actually just recently released a few products starting our own products line that benefits all hair types. When starting your own business, risk taking is a huge factor and process of your business practices. You have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone to bring in clients that will not only support you but by word of mouth will get your business out to everyone they interact with. This provides marketing for your business & when you create a comfortable relationship with these clients who are at first strangers, you build trust. At first, I was very anxious & had a difficult time opening up to be personable with my clients but with time i realized that once I stepped out of my zone I could assist my clients with finding their forever salon. Everything is worth the hard work in the end.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Fort Worth has so many different options whenever it comes to finding something to do. I myself am more of a family person so we would be spending the days at the local waterparks, lakes, movie theaters, aquariums and just anything that will keep us cool in the Texas heat while still having fun. I’d definitely suggest checking out the 7th street/Montgomery plaza area for sure. There is many food places like social house, chuys, velvet taco & of course a Bahamas bucks. That area has multiple shopping locations if you want to look around or need to grab anything it’s very convenient.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I believe my success comes from my support, team and most importantly my clients. My clients keep my imagination flowing, pushing myself to step outside of my comfort zone to try the new techniques/trends. Over the years I’ve learned techniques to achieve the look my clients are going for, using that knowledge to my future clients who bring in the latest trends. My support system keeps me going as a stylist to not give up when things get stressful. I’d like to shoutout Kayla, Bella Gomez & Kariah Monique for going through the long days in the salon, getting through the tough situations and fallbacks we have as business owners. Kariah is the head of our own product line with all natural ingredients. Each product has different benefits & fits into every type of hair. We definitely guide each other & make executive decisions on how to improve our salon.
