We had the good fortune of connecting with Fabi Melendez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fabi, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
Most difficult decision I have ever made can be moving to the states on my own at the age of 23. Just a simply curiosity, a seasonal job and leaving my comfort zone turn into 5 years of my life here in Fort Worth, TX. At first it was very challenging, the cultural shock, being apart from my family and friends, and adapting to a new language – even though I was fully bilingual, it can be intimidating the first couple of months.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The one thing I can definitely say it differences me from others is my adaptive personality, I make sure everyone feels comfortable and give them the space on bringing ideas to the shoot or props. Plus being a bilingual latina has open me doors to a very accepting community that always sticks together.

I feel like challenges come and go it all depends how you face them. Keeping your head up high and not comparing your progress to others will make a HUGE difference on how you perceive what’s coming your way. I think we all as humans want to leave a legacy on this world with a story or a brand, if I would have to choose something the world knows me for it would be my passion for helping others create memories, even if its just throughout a lens 🙂

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My mom is actually coming to visit and we both love wine! I am excited to take her to the Stockyards again! With all the new wineries, brewery and fun activities there is around she would love it. Besides that, the Grapevine main st. & Clearfork have the best and cutest restaurants to grab a bit with your friends or a loved one.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents with no doubt – I started photography after I had moved here, so every time I would send them my photoshoots or would call them all excited after a session. They were always very supportive! Also, friends throughout the years have either been my models, recommend me or even hire me for their personal photos. Having their trust with photographing their wedding, newborns, birthday parties etc, is always very uplifting!
