We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I truly believe the most important factor to building my brand and creating a company from the ground up, is letting go of all fear, and believing that if you say yes, with confidence, and then just taking the next step, you WILL make it happen! I believe in the power of “yes” as much as the power of “no” When I began to build my brand, I said yes 10 times to every 1 no. As my company grew, then I was able to decrease the amount of “yes’s”, but honestly, that was only after about 7 years of steady growth. When I am now approached with design projects for weddings that I have never done, I am excited to say yes! Then I get to work. I study. I read. I listen to podcasts and go to Youtube and watch the people who are more successful than me and I figure out the “next step”, and then every step that needs to follow. I believe that saying “yes” to some things in my career, that I was clueless about, pushed me to become a much better version of myself and a much better version of my business. If you are not learning and growing your knowledge and skill set, in whatever your field is, than your business will stagnate!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am here to create “moments”. I was made to gather people, create incredible experiences that become memories that last. I am here to bring light and beauty to these special moments of “gathering” in peoples lives that bring joy. I began as a caterer 18 years ago. After my move to Texas, from Arkansas, and re-building a catering business and retail boutique shop, I began to expand my catering business to include beautiful tablescapes with unique displays. I then began learning floral design. After a few years of many courses and just trial and error, I have drilled into a very organic, free flowing style of design. I then began actually coordinating and designing the whole wedding or event, and continued to expand my “showroom” of amazing table top and backdrop rentals. Beautiful food displays and every table in the room set with vintage dishes and unique floral designs is my signature! No big dream is ever easy. Building a brand and company that revolves around creating special moments in peoples lives, has definitely had it’s challenges, but the final moment when the bride walks into the room and says that it is everything she dreamed it would be, makes every single hard day, worth it!!!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First I would book the super cute airstream trailers at Hillwood Manor for us to stay in! I would take her to downtown Denison one afternoon for shopping at 401 Collective, Vintage Mercantile and 2 Chicks and Some Paint! The next day we would spend on Lake Texoma and end our day at BAY at the Lake for Live music and an amazing dinner and cocktail! Third day, we would definitely head west to Saint Jo’s and do a little shopping and winery touring at Arche winery and 4R!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be who I am as a business owner or a brand without my INCREDIBLE team! My husband of 28 years, Rick, who is now full time with our company, and our 20 amazing team members. We have 3 different businesses, all within the industry, (Old Quail Run Farm, BAY at the Lake and Bon Appetit Y’all) so to run without one segment, or team member, would throw everything off balance! We are truly blessed to be surrounded by who we have on board.
