We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Angell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Prior to opening my own business I worked for a national brand producing their events. It was truly a once in a lifetime kind of experience, and I absolutely loved every minute of my time there. After some time I realized it was time to spread my wings and take a risk in opening my own business. I’m naturally a dreamer, so events have been fun because I like to challenge myself and others to dream BIG about what these experiences can look like. I believe that this unique mindset can serve clients of all kinds in creating their dream event experience. My approach is a beautiful blend of the impossible partnered with the timelessness of good hospitality.Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Alice Allen Events really began in the cotton fields of West Texas a very long time ago. When I tell my story I always feel as if I need to go back in time, to when I was 16 years old in a small West Texas town, because really, that is where it all began. I’m not sure if I could tell you exactly what happened, but during the summer between my freshman and sophomore year of high school everything changed for me. That summer I realized my life would be what I make of it. Sounds deep for a teenager, but I knew deep down I didn’t want to follow the status quo in life. So, I didn’t. I decided to graduate high school early, because I was ready for my next chapter. So I transferred schools, graduated early, and headed to Nashville, TN for college. I’ll never forget the feeling sitting in my dorm room realizing that I had finally made it to this new city. Once I arrived to college I didn’t actually have a career plan, but being in music city I figured out pretty quickly I wanted to work in the music industry. I was fortunate to land an internship with a respected artist management firm my senior year and they ended up offering me a position after I graduated. At this point I thought all my dreams had come true! And then things changed. About 6 months into my first job I felt an overwhelming calling to move. I didn’t know where or what I’d do, but I began searching. Through an interesting series of events I found my way to Waco, TX where I took a job in operations, but a goal to lead events for the company I was with. After 1.5 years I was given the opportunity and never looked back. Building those events was no joke. It was a LOT of hard work, and at the beginning I didn’t have a team. The lessons I learned in that season are truly invaluable. When I look back on the journey that led me to Alice Allen Events I always see that strong willed, determine, scrappy 16 year old girl with big dreams in a small town. It keeps me grounded, focused, and inspired! Most days I’m more inspired by who I was at 16 with the guts to make those changes in my life than by anything else I’ve ever done.If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Okay first we would go to Nightlight Donuts! Oh my gosh… they’re incredible. Then it’s off to Magnolia! The best time to visit is first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon. They’ve open the new expansion and it’s a beautiful space to walk around with a coffee in hand. Then it’s off to Milo for lunch! I love a good lunch on their patio with brussel sprouts. Delicious! Post lunch it’s time to go for a walk in Cameron Park. This park is a jewel in Waco! Then it’s time for a glass of wine from Z’s at the Curry before heading to Moroso for dinner. Waco really has some awesome places to check out!The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout outs are challenging for me. If given the opportunity I would thank every single person who has helped inspire me, challenge me, and those who have just been there. However, if I have to select one it has to be my childhood friend, Charlsi. We met when we were just 7th grade brats, dreaming about life past jr. high. We’ve been friends for 15+ years now and she’s a friend as good as gold. Charlsi has been an inspirational entrepreneur in my life since college. She dived head first into entrepreneurship while I took a few years to arrive here. Even though our day to day lives and businesses look different being able to have someone who understands the challenges of owning your own business is invaluable. Charlsi- thank you for always being the brunette to my blonde and my biggest cheerleader.
