We had the good fortune of connecting with Faheem Rashid and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Faheem, what role has risk played in your life or career?
There’s a quote that says “nothing worth having comes easy”. In order to achieve what you want in life you have to take risks. You may do as much research and planning as you can, but at the end of the day you will have to take risks in order to achieve what you want in life.

But at the same time you don’t have to look at them as risks. Instead you can look at them as opportunities. Each risk you take is an opportunity to grow and get closer to where you want to be. A risk does not have to be a negative.

There is no guarantees in film. Every time I go for an audition it’s a risk, every class I take, every casting director I meet, the time I spend working on film and acting are all risks. But I look at them as opportunities to grow.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m an actor. I’m a filmmaker. I am myself.

My job help moves people, to evoke emotions and reactions that they did not even know they had. Its to tell stories that need to be told, and help someone forget about there busy lives for a little while.

Growing up I’ve always loved film. Some of my most treasured memories involves film and tv. It’s something I’ve always known I wanted to be a part of, but because of my own self doubt I did not pursue it.

Although I have faced a lot of challenges and continue to face them in my pursuit. My biggest challenge has been myself. There is something known as the “imposter syndrome,” where a person has a great feeling of inadequacy and self-doubt. Where they do not feel like they deserve things that they have and/or that they can’t do something because it won’t be up to a standard of “perfection.” I definitely fall victim to this. This leads to procrastination due to fear of not being able to do things “right” and frustration from the lack of progression.

However, this self-doubt is mostly unfounded. We lie to ourselves constantly and tell ourselves things that are not true. There’s a saying that in order to lie you must know the truth. So deep down we know these are lies and when we look at the proofs around us we see evidence contrary to what we tell ourselves.

I have learned so much in the last couple of years and I am truly grateful for the experiences I’ve had.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To me I like to play watch and eat. I like to do something physical first. If it’s a day trip I probably head up to grapevine lake to North shore trail. Go mountain biking. Northville trail is in 11 Mile loop on the north side of grapevine lake. I have a blast mountain biking or hiking. Possibly get some kayaks and go kayaking.

Then we’d head out to eat. The thing about DFW is any type of food you want you can find. I probably try to find a new place that neither one of us have been to before.

Then end the day at a movie theater. Knowing me I probably try to go to studio movie grill so I can eat again while watching the movie.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
No endeavor we undertake is truly done by ourselves. Every project I’ve been a part of is thanks to the friends I’ve made along the way, mentors I have learned from, books I have read and most importantly my family that supports me.

It is impossible to list everyone who has helped me over the years. I am truly blessed to have the support system around me that I have.
