We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Shumate and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erin, what do you attribute your success to?
I am always myself. I never change who I am or my style of work for other people. If people want to work with me, it’s for my style & personality, not just because I’m a photographer.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a photographer! Naturally, I love to capture moments, but what really drives me is making people feel beautiful & see their beauty. I also like showing people that beauty can be seen in creative work, details, etc & not just through a smile. I love creating work that is not typical but still classic & stunning!
As for professionalism, I am still working on becoming even more of a professional. I have definitely made my fair share of mistakes & I am sure I’ll make more on my journey to becoming more professional. It’s disappointing making mistakes, but I also find so much joy in my mistakes because it’s another opportunity for me to learn & become better.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Fort Worth! I absolutely love going to “funky town” & there’s so much to do there & I’m very familiar with the area!
First we would go to Cultural District, grab some tacos from the Velvet Taco, then we’d head over to the Trinity River park & sit in the park & eat! After all of that, we would head over Doc’s Record Store & the Montgomery Plaza Antique Mall to thrift!
Depending on how we’re feeling, we might go to the Botanical Gardens or Water Gardens because those are classic Fort Worth destinations to me, also great places to take photos!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have a few people to mention! First being my mom, if it were not for her constantly taking pictures my entire life & buying me my first camera, I would NOT be where I am now! I also would like to mention my friends & boyfriend for being so supportive of my work & always around for me to practice on! Without their availability, I doubt I would’ve progressed as far as I have!
