We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
My values go deep and were established as a young girl. I call myself a christian but calling yourself one and being one are two totally different things. I value honesty, hard work, compassion, forgiveness, grace, humility and love. There are so many to choose from but just like Jesus loved us, the one I value the most is love. This is shown in many ways. Through helping someone in need, providing a warm meal, making time to serve others, being a joyful face to someone who needs it. Love is shown in a variety of ways. It can be subtle or it can be extravagant. In any form, love is the value that matters most to me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I went through a trade school to become a Pharmacy Technician when I graduated high school. This was something I thought I would enjoy doing. When I got certified and started working in the field it turned into a whole different story. I started out in a long term care pharmacy which was such a blessing. I truly enjoyed my job but I did not see any growth in the position I was in. My next stop was the county hospital in their outpatient pharmacy. I did not anticipate all the rough days and challenges I would face working in that environment. The patients were already on edge from their ailments but to top it off my coworkers were not very happy people themselves. I got bullied and belittled everyday. I felt worthless and less than in every way. Each morning before I walked into the hospital I would call my mom and cry. I knew I needed to find another job. I had been at this job less then a year but it was time to move on.
After that experience I decided to take a break from practicing pharmacy. I still keep my certifications and license up to date for that next point in life when I use them again. I went to work for a custom saddle shop managing their Amazon department. I grew up in the country and around horses so tack and equine was second nature to me. I helped grow their amazon account into something successful. Each day I come in and package orders. I love my job but as an ambitious woman does, I long for something greater.
I started my own Etsy making faux leather earrings in my shop named JoyfullyMadeByAshley. I also have become a certified Permanent Makeup Artist specializing in eyebrows that I hope will become my full time job. I want to be my own boss and my own influencer in life. I recently started my permanent makeup business called Bewitched Beauty & Brows in Weatherford, TX that I hope will take off and become extremely successful.
Until then I will be packaging orders for all the wonderful amazon customers in the custom saddle shop.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friend to all the beautiful places. We would definitely go out country dancing in the evenings and have a few adult beverages for sure. We would go shopping and site seeing in the historical Fort Worth Stock yards. I would take her to walk the Trinity River and enjoy some delicious Agua Frescas. We would find the most quaint coffee shops and enjoy a fresh brew and a pastry.
I may set up a game night with all of the wonderful young adults from church. We would have snacks and play all of the cool games, like spoons of course! My friend and I also would probably just hang around the house and watch all the hallmark movies or true crime documentaries!
I love exploring and experiencing new things but I also love being cozy and staying at the house all day too.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to of course my family, my fiancé and the church. My family has always been so supportive and involved. No matter what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go in life they were always willing to help me in any way they could. They have loved me through the good times and the bad and for that I am thankful.
I am grateful for the loving fiancé I have. He pushes me to be the best version of myself I can be. He knows I am a driven woman. Always wanting to tackle more things then I can handle. Knowing this he still encourages me and supports my dreams. He takes all of my mood swings in stride and never falters in his commitment.
Finally, the church that really impacted my life when I moved out at 18 was Mansfield Church of Christ in Mansfield, TX. They became my second family. I was provided for, loved and taken care of in my time of transition from living at home to being on my own. I never felt like I was ever alone. I had family even when my blood family was not near. This church gave me hope and a fulfillment that only Jesus can bring.
