We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Stringfellow and Mariah Ferrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily and Mariah, we’d love to hear more about how you both thought about starting your own business?
We met at the beginning of our cosmetology careers, working at a reputable salon as apprentices. We immediately connected and a friendship blossomed. We quickly began to imagine what life would be like if we had our own salon and how we would brand it. After a few years of building relationships with our clients, and saying yes to any opportunities that came about, we felt ready to make the jump. We noticed a need for cleaner options when it came to hair color and hair care. That was a huge motivator for starting our business Prism Hair Loft.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about both of your careers, what can you share with our community?
We are really excited to offer healthier and cleaner professional hair services to all of our clients. We wanted a luxurious experience in a space without harsh and harmful chemicals found in several mainstream color and hair care lines. With research, we found how harmful these chemicals found in traditional color lines are to our bodies and to the environment. That is why we have chosen to use color and lighteners that are free from ammonia, PPD, resorcinol, and animal testing. Many individuals are sensitive to these strong ingredients and we strive to provide the safest and best quality color possible. Our journey felt very natural because it aligned already with our core values. If there is anything we have learned along the way, it is to not belittle or second guess yourself. Your dreams and your values are what sets you apart and what makes your goals fruitful.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We think one of the best places to go in Dallas is the Dallas Museum of Art. It is a good place to spend endless hours looking at gorgeous pieces from all over the world, and it’s FREE admission. Eatzi’s is also an amazing place to stop by and grab a bite to eat. The deli has great sandwiches and salads plus great wine. Who doesn’t love that! We would also say the Bishop Arts District is a must to visit and see. It has a lot to offer!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly, we wouldn’t be where we are today without the love and support of our families. They have offered a lot of their time and energy into our business to make sure our success was obtainable and they continue to support us everyday. We also would like to mention Sandi Hammons Studios for providing us a beautiful space to start our business. From the beginning, they have supported our vision and continue to help us everyday with marketing and encouragement.
