Meet Chase Derrick | Plastic Surgeon

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chase Derrick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chase, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
How vast a plastic surgeon’s expertise is. Plastic surgery encompasses so many aspects of the human form (really from head to toe) since we work on not only the popular cosmetic procedures that include breast augmentations, facelifts, and the ever-popular “mommy makeover”; but also procedures after cancer or injury such as breast reconstruction, skin cancer reconstruction, and hand surgery. Another aspect that people find really surprising is how common it is for men to undergo plastic surgery procedures–we do not only serve woman. Many men seek out a plastic surgeon to improve their appearance through gynecomastia excision (removal of male breast gland tissue), liposuction, facelifts, or tummy tucks themselves.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My dedication to my patients and their outcome sets me apart from other surgeons. I have known from a young age I wanted to be a surgeon. I have worked in a variety of positions, starting out at the bottom and working my way up. I used to help clean operating rooms and transport patients back in college. Not many surgeons can say that. I find it incredibly helpful being able to understand the different roles and how important every single person involved in the care of a patient is. And how important it is that you treat them with kindness. I can’t perform surgery without my team. From the first phone call until the last visit we strive to provide the highest quality care and experience possible. Ultimately we are here for the patients, and to help them achieve their goals.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I believe Dallas is one of the most amazing places to live. It’s why I chose to come back to my home after my years of training. My favorite places include the State Fair (the corndogs are legendary), the Arboretum (could those goldfish get any bigger?), and White Rock Lake for a bike ride or run. Also Katy Trail Ice house to people watch and relax. We would have to check out a Dallas Cowboys game or the Stars or Mavs depending on the season. Dallas has an incredible food scene so we would need to eat at Truluck’s, Monarch, BBQ from Terry Blacks, Mi Cocina (I craved their food during my residency in Missouri), Mesero in Legacy West, and Rick’s Chophouse in downtown McKinney. We would also need to check out Top Golf and hopefully burn off some of those calories.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am so thankful to the people who have been my cheerleaders, challengers, and support system throughout my career journey. First, I need to thank my parents for exposing me to medicine and the incredibly rewarding career dedicated to helping others as well as all their support along the way. I still remember watching my father’s surgeries when I was a child and how inspiring it was to see how a surgery could change someone’s life for the better. That impact is so rewarding and fulfilling. Next, the countless teachers who pushed me to develop the knowledge base I use every day as well as the talented surgeons who helped me develop my skills and techniques. They taught me without fear of competition, and showed me how to be humble and trust my instincts. Finally, my absolutely amazing family and friends who are my support system, cheerleaders, marketers, and biggest fans. I hope they know how much I cherish their support. And to my patients for trusting me to help them on their journey to feeling whole again after cancer, having children, or just wanting to feel like the best version of themself.
