We had the good fortune of connecting with Chanell Huecker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chanell, what are you inspired by?
My dad. He has always been my ultimate inspiration and the roots of my creative heart. Growing up, he was always behind the camera documenting our family adventures together. I also remember when he used to go to auditions and how I loved cheering him on. When I was gifted my very first camera, he continued to encourage me to pursue my dreams and showed his full support by brainstorming ideas with me–and even filming most of my earliest videos on YouTube. Yeah, he’s my hero.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I am a self-taught creative and have been doin’ my thing since I was 12-years-old. I started out sharing my content (short films and music video remakes) on YouTube from 2006-2019. My skills have definitely evolved over the years through trial and error. If there’s ever a moment I feel stuck or unsure of how to go about editing/shooting, I usually search for helpful tutorials on YouTube to provide guidance and insight. Lately, I’ve been loving how much I’ve learned by networking with other creatives.

I’ve always valued QUALITY over quantity. I ensure my heart is fully immersed from start to finish when creating. I never share content on a whim or half-ass my work. What I put out into the world represents who I am and I always strive to be warm, kind, and FUN!

I launched ‘byCHANELL’ last summer to initially kick-off my photography business. I decided on ‘byCHANELL’ because I didn’t want there to be a limit to what it is I actually do: photography, video editing, filming, graphic design, acting/skits, etc. All executed by Chanell: me.

I created my TikTok account just 7 months ago. I originally started creating videos on the platform that were solely catered to photography, but always felt myself gravitating towards MOVIES – as I’m a huge movie buff. I listened to my heart and began evolving my videos to become more of what made me feel joyful and alive. Recreating some of my favorite comfort movies and sharing them is so special to me because spreading joy and laughter is all I ever hope for. Comfort movies are exactly what they sound like: comforting. They’re movies that feel like a warm hug and I hope my audience feels it through my content, too.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As someone who was was born and raised in the heart of Texas (Dallas-Fort Worth), I feel like I’m still discovering new gems across the city. Lately, I’ve found a really soft spot for the Bishop Arts District. It’s inspiring, vibrant, and such a fun atmosphere. I love Grapevine Main Street so much, too. Downtown Fort Worth is incredibly inviting for just about any event–a romantic date night at, let’s say, Reata or walking through Sundance Square with your closest friends after belly-achin’ laughs at Four Day Weekend or a night at Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar–it’s always a good time. As you may already know, I’m a sucker for movies, so it’s a guarantee you’ll find me with a handful of popcorn at Coyote Drive-In every so often.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
For all my life, my dad has been my truest inspiration. He still says he’s my ‘biggest fan’ after all these years. He gifted me my very first camera when I was 12-years-old and the rest is history.

Among an infinite array of things I admire her for, my sister has been supporting my creative heart for years and I couldn’t be more thankful. She’s actually the reason behind why I decided to recently pursue my photography business. We have experienced so many adventures together and a camera was almost always within reach to capture us in our element.

Lastly (and most certainly not least), my husband, Brian, is my anchor and light. He’s my high school sweetheart (and we’ll be celebrating our 3rd wedding anniversary this fall). I’m truly at a loss for words to fully express my appreciation and love for him. He continues to encourage, inspire, and support me through every season of my life. He captures my heart and holds it closer to his each and everyday.
