We had the good fortune of connecting with Benjamin Koch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Benjamin, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Every time you bump up against a new challenge that excites you but also triggers a fear reaction, this is a GOOD sign you are on the brink of an opportunity for growth. One thinker I admire, Bob Proctor, calls this the “terror barrier,” where the call to expand into new potentials requires releasing an old limiting belief or paradigm about yourself. These leaps of growth take intention and courage, but always pay off in some way. The only negative kind of risks are those you take while following the herd, listening to an external script that doesn’t resonate with your own intuition. Again and again when I’ve leaned into fear that was actually excitement in disguise, I’ve grown into new potentials, opportunity, and confidence.
What should our readers know about your business?
The company I co-founded, NuMinds Enrichment, has endured the same massive turmoil as others in the past year. Our core values of empathy, creativity, and adaptability are exactly what have allowed us to surf through the pivot to virtual. Now, our teacher trainings and student programs are completely adapted and COVID-proof, so we can keep serving the revolution in education. The “wake up” of 2020 was also a great opportunity for me to elevate and accelerate my work as a sound healer and coach focused on mindfulness, mindset, and purpose.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve been in Dallas for almost 20 years now and there are still so many gems I’ve yet to discover. Example…we were recently filming some clips for our virtual teacher training and we were doing a segment on mindfulness. We decided to film at Thanksgiving Square in downtown Dallas because we’d never been there. What a spot! When we walked into the chapel for the first and saw those spiraling stained-glass windows we just kind of stood there mesmerized for a few minutes.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The classic text Think and Grow Rich has had a powerful influence in how I’ve turned inward to my own thinking processes as the foundation of my success. And in the book, Napoleon Hill discusses the power of the mastermind group as a multiplier when we can node into a network of aligned thinkers who support your goals. Last year, I was invited into a mastermind community by Tiago Buhr, a Brazil-based entrepreneur, and I’ve benefitted from the support and influence of these successful, high-performance and values-driven creators.
