We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaliyah Griffin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aaliyah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business. “How would I do this?” “Where would I start?” “Will I succeed?” These are all the questions I asked myself before starting my business. It’s scary at first, your not sure where to start, where the money would come from, or if it would be something worth standing. But I put all that to the side and started preparing. The first thing I did was set goals, big goals! Most people would say be realistic but what does that mean? Settle? I made sure that my goals were so big, they scared me and they did. The second thing I did was seek advice from a person of wisdom and a business owner. That person for me was my mother. I tried not to think too hard or too long and I just did it.
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me aparts from others is I individualized each person skincare and health needs. I do not treat everyone skin the same because no one has the same skin and that’s my motto. I am here to serve you and your skincare needs. I am most proud of my skin care line and the new business venture I am launching this year!!! I love creating new formulas and treatments that would help someone feel confident in their skin. I got to where I am today by not settling and getting in my own way. It wasn’t easy but you learn to push all the negative thoughts to the side and focus on the things that matter. Starting your own business always starts in the mind before it’s ever something tangible. My story is, I suffered from severe cystic acne and it caused me to have very low self-esteem. I felt ugly, to be honest. I compared myself to other women and it caused me to be depressed. I spent long nights studying and researching skin and the body and ways to help improve my skin. I started creating formulas in my kitchen, mixing ingredients that I would get from health food stores In order to create what I call the perfect formula.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to brunch at WHISTLE BRITCHES OR YOLK! As far as drinks go I would take them bar hopping to places in deep Ellum, bar Louie, etc… And maybe a hike at the Cedar Hill Reserve Park.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My MOTHER! My mother is awesome, she has been my mentor, counselor, teacher, best friend and so much more. She is super supportive in more ways than one. She pushes me to be the best version of myself. She is the reason why I even thought to start my own business. She is a wonderful business owner herself and has groomed me to be almost as great as her, lol.
