We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessie Nair and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a child, my singular goal was to become an attorney. At 24, I made this lifelong dream come true. After a decade and a half, I found myself becoming disillusioned with my career. Like many, the pandemic unexpectedly gave me a chance to pause and re-evaluate my life choices. I found that I was no longer happy and yearned for a change. I spent the next couple of years pondering what opportunities I should pursue. I researched various avenues and decided it was time to start working for myself. I chose home care as the business, as I have always had an interest in helping seniors. Without initially realizing it, my own grandmother’s story informed this decision as well. I was so grateful that my grandmother was part of a literal and figurative village and was not alone in her life, especially during the lockdown and especially during the last years of her life. If possible, I wanted to start a business and be part of a village for the seniors I encountered. Also, I decided that if I was going to work countless hours and spend a majority of my life putting effort towards my professional goals, it should be for something that made a difference to me personally.

What should our readers know about your business?
Homewatch CareGivers of Lewisville is a home care agency that provides assistance with ADLs (activities of daily living). We have a team of caregivers that help with non-medical care. I am truly excited by our team, as caring for our seniors is a team effort. My office manager, who is truly a compassionate person, and I are in constant communication with our team members. The open line of communication with our caregivers is one way that sets us apart from others businesses. From day one, we have made it a necessary goal that our clients and caregivers know they are seen and heard. When necessary, the office staff has cared for our clients as well, as we always want a continuity of service. We don’t just talk the talk, we walk alongside the team. Also, because I understand the importance of the relationship we are creating, I communicate with our clients on a regular basis and have fostered relationships that go beyond agency/client.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a new Texan, I am excited to visit places in Dallas and learn more about the city. I enjoy The Colony and Legacy West, as there are lots of restaurants to explore and tons of shopping to be done. The Stockyards in Ft. Worth would also be on the must-do list, as it is not everyday that you can see a cattle drive. If you are like me and enjoy gambling, there are casinos close-by. I don’t think a trip to Dallas could be complete without visiting The Star. The Dallas Cowboys are, afterall, America’s team.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my family and friends that have always supported me, even when my choices were perhaps unorthodox. I also want to thank the members of the Lewisville and Denton Chambers of Commerce. I have met truly wonderful people that have encouraged me and guided me through the process of starting and growing a business.
