Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. I try to remember these wise sayings taken from the Hebrew book of Proverbs. In my business, I find myself assuming I know what is best and then basing my emotions on that. But ultimately I understand that I do not know what is best, but I believe God does. I try to approach my work as an offering to God. Giving him my best, and trust that he will do something good with it, pleasing to him. Read more>>

“In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger – something better, pushing right back.” I recently completed a fully original, interactive, immersive production called, “Invincible Summer,” which was based in part by this quote. What I love about this quote (which is a partial expression from a longer quote) is the opening line. I believe it means that even in the darkest moments there is an unconquerable soul that will survive. This soul is made up of memories, spirit, joy and unconditional love. So even as winter howls its raw, moaning breath, there is still something within, warm and real and right, pushing back against the bitter death of the light. Read more>>

My favorite quote is “let it go let it flow.” This quote speaks volumes to me because I believe that it speaks to how life comes in ebbs and flows. It also reminds me to take a step back from situations that might seem hard to handle and instead find the lesson. Adopting this mindset has really helped me become fluid in my career path and has shifted my perspective in life to allow good times and bad times to come, without expecting them to stay. “It always seems impossible until it is done.” – Nelson Mandela These words have carried me through some of life’s grandest trials. Throughout my artistic career, I have had the honor of creating countless large-scale art installations. Each time I pick up a paint brush and stare at the proverbial blank canvas before me, I pause and meditate on Nelson’s words. I am comforted by the notion that the anticipation of completion is almost always worse than the simple act of finishing. Read more>>

“Every child is born an artist, the problem is to remain one once they grow up.” -Pablo Picasso I love this quote by Picasso because it is a sincere representation of the notion that we possess within ourselves everything we need. All we have to do is listen to our inner voice and allow that truth to come into existence. The natural state of a child is to imagine, to create, to view the world in new and innovative ways. Society tends to inhibit these imaginative qualities that we all innately possess as human beings. To be an artist is to listen to our inner child, let go of our social constraints, and to express our unique perspective through the mediums of our choice. Read more>>

“She overcame everything that was meant to destroy her.” Who knew that when I stumbled across this quote while scrolling on social media, it would become a constant reminder that no matter what obstacles presented themselves in the past, God has equipped me to to get through every single one of them better than before. I can apply this to every area in my life from personal to business to spiritual. Sometimes, in the moment I forget but it’s in those quiet times that I’m reminded of this quote. Read more>>

“When you’re good at something, you’ll tell everyone. When you’re great at something, they’ll tell you.” – Walter Payton I read this quote several years ago and it has just stuck with me. It’s a reminder to just keep doing what I love, what I am passionate about. In my industry, if you want people to talk about you, if you want to get recognition, you have to serve them. It’s all about service and bringing value to others, in my case it’s mostly in the form of food and our seasonings. I take to heart the idea that my service and products will speak for themselves; I do not need to brag on myself, where I have been, the experience I have. It will all come out in my products. One of my all time favorite sayings is, “Kai Zen”… this is a Japanese philosophy and way of life that my mother shared with me, ands truly resonated with me. Essentially, Kai Zen means “gradual improvement”. I admittedly am quite type A, and for me it is incredibly easy to want things to just happen over night, and get impatient when I am working on something… especially like building a business. This saying gives me a friendly reminder, that nothing happens over night, and no body is a one hit wonder! It takes gradual improvement to become successful, and I like the philosophy of Kai Zen as it makes me ask myself, what can I do now, today, in this moment- to take a step to where I want to be? I think we could all use a little more Kai Zen in our lives!. Read more>>

My absolute favorite quote is, “The thing that you do with the least amount of effort is your gift from God, what you do with that thing is your gift back to Him.” I love this quote because it reminds us that God has gifted each person with specific talents and special gifts, things that they do effortlessly, and those gifts should not be wasted but used to be a blessing to the world. I think about Kobe Bryant, he blessed the world by entertaining us with his God-given gift. But even though he was gifted in the sport of basketball he still needed to develop that talent which led to him becoming a champion and one of the greatest basket ballplayers of all time. I think that if we focus on what we have actually been gifted to do more people would live happier fulfilled lives. Read more>>

I’m at the head of the table wherever I sit. I love this quote! To me, it signifies that I don’t have to try hard to appear powerful or important. Confidence, alone carries with it power and importance. It’s a whole vibe. You either have it or you don’t. It’s a trait you carry with you wherever you go. It’s how you step into a room. It’s how you communicate with others. It’s even in your walk. Your style. Your personality. You don’t have to scream it from the rooftops, it doesn’t have to be verbally acknowledged by your peers. It’s something that is FELT by those in your presence. Period. I don’t have to physically sit at the head of a table to BE at the head of the table. Deep right?. Read more>>

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” I think very often, especially when starting a venture, we put unrealistic expectations on ourselves. Everybody has to start somewhere and for most people it’s not a place of privilege or prestige. If you’re fortunate enough to be naturally gifted at whatever you’ve chosen to do you are fortunate indeed, but even natural gifts have to be cultivated. That takes time and dedication. Venus and Serena Williams weren’t winning Wimbledon six months after they picked up tennis rackets! I’ve had to learn to be gentle with myself and also remember to celebrate every victory, no matter how small it may seem. It’s all moving me toward my ultimate goal of being a successful writer and showrunner. Read more>>

Erica Ogburn | Resume and Career Developer

One of my favorite quotes is, “God will make room for your gifts and talents.” This quote was a constant reminder to keep pushing when starting The Resume Bar Services, LLC. When starting any business type, one may question if they are making the right decision; one may also consider not starting a business of interest because the market is “oversaturated.” These were my thoughts throughout creating The Resume Bar Services and even during the launch of the company. This quote means there is power in your gifts and talents. Do not allow self-doubt to stop you from sharing what you bring to the table. Your uniqueness and self-brand can never be duplicated or “oversaturated” by the work of others. Read more>>

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz live at the tippy top of my mind on a daily basis. They are: be impeccable with your word, don’t take anything personally, don’t make assumptions and always do your best. Simple, but they are the blueprint for and how I approach work and decision making each and every day. The book and its expression of these agreements helped me to understand myself in relation to others, in love, and to understand the dynamics of how I move on a spiritual and emotional level. Any working professional knows the roller coaster of emotions, personalities and situations that you can encounter on a weekly basis so these affirmations ground me – they keep my head clear and my heart open!. The Serenity Prayer is my go to affirmation. “God grant me the serenity to ACCEPT the things I can not change, the COURAGE to change the things I can and the WISDOM to know the difference. I learned this prayer 20 years ago while I was apart of THE BRYAN ADAMS BELLES Drill Team (shout out to Connie Tyler for her leadership). I didn’t know it then, but this is a prayer I’ve recited over the years. In times when I need to make life changing decisions, I recite this prayer. When I’m afraid of moving forward, I recite this prayer. Acceptance, courage and wisdom has been truly instrumental in getting me through the uncertainty and fear brought on by the pandemic. Proverbs 22:29 It says “ Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.“ To me this quote is a promise, and at times this promise is the only thing that keeps me going. If I keep hustling, and putting my heart and soul into my craft, eventually I will get to that level where you need to be of high rank to even get access to me. It says that if you put in the work, eventually the universe will reward you with a payoff. And that is the only promise I need to have faith and keep pursuing my art. Read more>>

Philippians 2:3-4 (NKJV) “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interest, but also for the interests of others.” This is the guiding scripture for Mission Counseling & Consulting, LLC! My company was started because of a personal journey of dealing with chronic disease and mental illness. This scripture reminds me and those we contract to work with us, as well as our clients of our intentions. We are truly in the business of helping others rewrite the story of their holistic whole-body health and wellness. It is my desire to always offer my clients a more simple way of healing than what I had experienced. It took me several years, a lot of trial and error, heartache, numerous hospitalizations, experimenting with too many medications to count, and countless time and money to get to the status of health that I am in today!. Charde Namaste | Wellness Facilitator | Yoga Teacher & Health Coach

When I first thought about creating my own business, this quote was the extra push I needed to pursue my dream of having my own wellness business. The doubt, fear, and worry was building up in my mind and I just wanted confirmation that this was what I should do. I wanted a sign or for someone to tell me I was making the right decision. Then I realized my desire was the sign and the only way I would know what would happen in the future would be to create it boldly. Staying in my head and over-thinking wouldn’t make my dreams appear. Boldly stepping out and taking a chance would and that is where fortune had a chance to find me. Not necessarily fortune in the form of monetary value, but the fortune I would feel from overcoming my own limiting beliefs. The same works for you! If you have a dream or goal and are waiting for confirmation or the right sign– your desire is the sign! Fortune favors the bold, go out and achieve it!. Read more>>

“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field. I’ll meet you there.”- Rumi This is one of my favorite quotes and has been for as long as I can remember. As a coach, I see people everyday that just desire to be seen and known at a deeper level, something that I believe is simply a part of the human condition, and for me to be that safe space it feels so honoring. Though I love the quote because when I was younger I had those people reach out to me in my life and really allow me that “field” to lay my ego and burdens down. These people were open to seeing and knowing me at a true soul level. Meeting another at that level without judgement is incredibly healing and expanding for both parties. So I keep this quote close to me in my personal life and business as a reminder of what we are all desiring in our lives. Read more>>

I’d like to share an affirmation that made me realize who I am and why I should always be on the path I’ve always wanted. It states: If you don’t overcome fear & conquer trials in life you’re not living Life is a journey full of crucibles, and each one you complete, you become stronger The harder the crucible you experience, the stronger you become, Every new crucible been harder than the last. The stronger you become through each trial, the more you affirm what you’re fighting for! These words above are a reminder that no matter what may come my way either good or bad, it’s sure that I am on my way to greater feet, if only I don’t quit. Our best tomorrow starts with a better yesterday! To conclude, you are who you are when you endure the crucibles on your path, which breeds a stronger you!. Read more>>

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty” Maya Angelou Much like the butterfly, I’ve had to go through some dark times and struggles to not only appreciate the beautiful outcome What is now but to appreciate the journey itself. Like one of my favorite poems by Langston Hughes – life for me,ain’t been no crystal stair. I am truly grateful for what I’ve gone through, my illnesses included (Crohn’s & Adrenal Disease) have shaped and molded me into the mom, sister, daughter, friend and mompreneur that I am today. “If nothing changes, nothing changes”, from the book Traction by Gino Wickman. This quote stood out to us for its simple yet profound meaning. In anyone’s reality there are changes that occur any given moment, and for us… riding the waves is much more enjoyable and fruitful. One of my favorite quotes is: “If it were easy, everyone would do it.” It’s not your typical positive motivational quote, but it always reminds me that through hardship comes great reward. Nothing special comes easy, and even if a lot of people are doing what you’re doing, no one can do it like you can. Read more>>

I know what it feels like to feel ugly on the inside, so if I can just help one person feel beautiful on the outside, then I know I am doing the right thing, the thing that I love, the thing I am most good at, I know I chose the right career. In my twenties I read A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles written by Marianne Williamson. One of the quotes I read that has stuck with me over the years was “I cannot control the outcome of any situation, only every choice I make along the way.” In this fast-paced world it’s easy to feel out of control. Every decision we make changes the outcome of what happens next, changes the way a person receives us and influences the outcome of any given situation. While we may not be able to totally control any given situation, this is a reminder that we always have accountability for our part in it. Read more>>

My favorite quote is from Friedrich Nietzsche, The Dawn, 1881 “The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.” So many things in my life I can relate to this quote, I believe that we should be able to think differently, take risks and get support for the outcome no matter how ” out of the box” the idea is! I always think about this quote when I am asked if I regret shifting my whole life to study art abroad, especially being from a strict culture and the answer is never “yes”. I only regret the time I wasted not looking for a way to achieve what I wanted earlier. The freedom of taking decisions that are risky or out of the norm should be a right for everyone, not a privilege that they have to fight for. Our goals in life are different and it sure varies from one person to the other the method by which they pursue these goals. Read more>>
