We had the good fortune of connecting with Miranda Magana and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miranda, how has your pespective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My work life balance has significantly changed over time. I believe it’s important to have a balance to not only prevent stress but to keep your creative juices flowing! The build up of stress will start to reflect on your content and your audience will pick up on that!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I create crazy/colorful makeup looks and share photos/tutorials on my social media platforms. I believe the concept of my photos has set me apart from others. I use sunrise/sunset lighting and my iPhone to capture my art and the standard for beauty influencers is typically a set backdrop with studio lighting. Over the span of the past 3 years, I’ve grown in so many ways. It has been a challenge to learn how to navigate throughout the business on my own without experience or with the help of a professional. Being a smaller beauty influencer, there are companies/brands that attempt to take advantage of us. I’ve made the mistake of promoting product for free just for a chance to work with such large names. It’s important for smaller influencers, like myself, to know your worth! Know how much hard work and time goes into your work! I want my audience and anyone who dreams of being in this industry to know their time is not free and their work is worth much more!

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Deep Ellum! There are so many great places to eat/drink, shop and explore. The atmosphere is very bright and gives an artistic vibe. There is also music all around. Overall, it’s a great place to explore while in Dallas!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give recognition to my grandma! Without her constant support of my work, I would have given up a long time ago. She has taught me to unapologetically be myself. It can be very challenging to put yourself out there in the beauty industry, due to beauty standards/expectations. Seeing my grandma always remain true to herself throughout her life has inspired me to do the same. My work reflects who I am!
