We had the good fortune of connecting with Xavier Egan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Xavier, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I suppose it all started back in my Houston childhood, you see, both of my parents are entrepreneurs. My mother had a tax office, as sort of a side gig during the season. My father, did many things, the most prevalent throughout the years was trucking. My father also owned vending machines at some point, he brought all the change and cash home each weekend after he tended to the machines. He would dump it all on the dining room table and count bills and roll coins. (Really old fashion, with all the technology these days.) I would watch from the end of the table, until one day he asked if I wanted to count with him. I said, sure thing, how much does it pay? That day, my father recounts, is when he knew I would own my own business! From there, I feel it was really all about finding the perfect business for my skills. Clearly, I need more skills too! That brought me to North Texas, where I studied Accounting and Finance at the University of Texas at Arlington, which turned out to be a great decision. The program was full of great professors and the campus was full of opportunities to create lifetime bonds. The DFW turned out to be a melting pot of ideas and people where work was abundant. I worked years in the corporate environment from bookkeeper all the way to CFO of small business units across the globe. The experience was great, but I felt I was always destined to be on the other side of the fence, owner versus employee. I did a lot of reading articles, books, magazines and online details on what was happening in the industry abroad. I noticed that mergers and acquisition seem to be something that created a lot of action in the market, I wanted to know how I could participate. Through my research I found there was a smaller value market and entry advisors called Business Brokers. These guys would help you find a business that fit the financial level you were at, and alluded to the market being broad and ripe with opportunity providing resources and examples. At that point, I went on the hunt for a business acquisition that I would be happy to make the leap into! For years, I came up a bust on what would fit the skills I had gained over time and my sheer inquisitive nature when it came to understanding how businesses worked. Then one day, eureka, I found a Business Brokerage sort of franchise concept for sale in my area! I would be able to buy the concept, independently run under my own brand but gain all the knowledge, history and training from a recognized leader in the industry. It was a match made in heaven for me! That was the beginning of Capital Asset Advisors, LLC. www.capitalassetadvisors.net Helping business owners understand their value and helping them gain their value from the market. It embodied all the inquisitive ideals I had always dreamed of, a chance to understand all types of businesses and represent them for the greatest value. As we serviced clients, in some cases, real estate was involved. So, in order to service customers better, I decided to add a partner and enhance to a real estate brokerage as well. Eventually, we began to notice there were a certain amount of business owners we could not help. Most often due to the value of the owners business not being where they hoped or believed it should be, in order for the owner to exit. This pushed us toward providing more resources for owners, to ensure that they can grow their value, create more scalability or create more efficiencies. In order to do that, we decided to partner with other organizations whom could help owners do just those things. Sure, bank alliances were needed to close deals, but we wanted more, so the Advisor Resources were born. An alliance with Accountants to Technology providers, and anyone in between, whom we felt could assist and/or increase the owner’s position. That is the full evolution of Capital Asset Advisors, LLC. We like where we have come from, but love where we are helping owners go and grow to! We advise on BUY and SELL side Business, Technology, and Real Estate transactions; providing solutions and partners across all asset classes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the city of Arlington, they are becoming more and more the entertainment center of the DFW.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a Shoutout to my number 1 supporter, my wife of 10 years, this month! A supportive spouse is an indispensable component to success. Having someone to share my wins and losses with is important. Someone who can take your mind off all of the activity of the world, and bring you into the present. Just someone to share an honest smile with. I appreciate everything she does to support my dreams, I only hope I provide as much happiness to her as she gives to me! Happy Anniversary sweetie! 🙂
