We had the good fortune of connecting with Tracie Benton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tracie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to make something that people could use that didn’t already exist. I wanted people to be able to locate creatives all on one platform instead of looking at multiple different platforms. I wanted to add designers because some people have creative thoughts but need help seeing those thoughts come to life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Lux Style & Design is different because we not only include closet refresh and organizers. But we have stylist that can work with male and females of all ages. For example our most popular event is our custom prom event. It feels like a Met Gala for the youth because we go over different designs and styles for people of all shapes and sizes. I am most excited about working with different clients that have goals they want to see come to life. At the end of the day we are a customer service and it makes me excited to see them excited about something we gave to them.
It wasn’t easy but I am weird in the fact that I love challenges. I am always willing to try new things and push for something that other people haven’t done before. If I get asked questions that I don’t know answers to, I am always willing to ask somebody who does know the answer. I have no ego and I am always looking forward to trying new things.
A lesson I’ve learned is not everybody is going to see your vision and not everybody will agree with it. You can’t force anybody to feel the way you feel and that is okay. But if it is something you love then you have to learn to be your own cheerleader.
The truth is I want the world to know that I don’t have a sense of fashion. I started this company to get help with that in my own life. I’ve never had an eye to be able to put things together but working side by side with these creators I have a new found respect for them. To be able to make somebody feel good inside and out.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a road trip kinda girl. So we would start in Houston and probably stay at the Marriot downtown with the Texas pool. We would stay their a couple days and hang out by the pool then go check out a hookah lounge. Then we would go to Mastros and have steak and drinks. Next we would drive to Austin and walk 6th street for the day
Then drive to San Antonio and walk the river walk then we would make our way back to Houston.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shout out to Don Miguel Ruiz, The author of ‘The Four Agreements’. The book talks about making agreements with yourself everyday. Be impeccable with your word. Don’t take everything personally, don’t make assumptions, and always try your best. Reading this book teaches me to move freely around life and that I just need to do my best and not worry about outside factors that I have no control over.
