We had the good fortune of connecting with Traci Hawkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Traci, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I’m a mom of two young kiddos, and I’m in my second semester of Nurse Practitioner school, all while running two businesses, so I can definitely attest to the importance of striving for balance. I believe balance comes from being in a constant state of awareness and choosing to be adaptable. For me, having a support system is integral to the success of my businesses and my family.
I’ve had to learn over the years of being a business owner and a mom that it’s okay to ask for help, and that doing so actually increases the efficiency of my business and the quality of time I get to spend with my family. In addition, I’m also not afraid to get creative and find new ways to make things work. As an entrepreneur, that’s really what it’s all about! We want the freedom that comes with this entrepreneurship, so it’s up to us to come up with innovative ways to have it all: family, business, and a fully-expressed life! So, for me, balance is all about being inventive, creative, and having support from others.
What should our readers know about your business?
I own a boutique med spa in Richardson, TX, Urbane Aesthetiks, and a training academy where I mentor new injectors, Urbane Aesthetiks Academy.
I’ve always been an entrepreneur at heart, and owned my first business designing fashion-forward medical uniforms in my early 20s while working as a trauma/ICU nurse at Parkland hospital.
Fast forward to around 2010: I received my first cosmetic injectable treatment, and my interest in medical aesthetics was immediate. Over the next few years, I began educating myself about cosmetic injectables, and in 2014, I took a leap of faith and opened my med spa!
Over the years, as my practice has evolved, I’ve continued to learn and grow. I started Urbane Aesthetiks Academy to give back by sharing my knowledge with new injectors. I love how passionate my students are about the art of injecting!
There have definitely been plenty of lessons and setbacks along the way, but the biggest lesson I have learned throughout the years is to never let the events that transpire in life to hold me back from making something happen. No matter what the world throws at me, I’ve learned to practice resilience and turn my setbacks into part of my success story. It’s all about flipping the script and taking control of YOU. There is no one else who can do it for you.
The Urbane brand is all about letting your unique qualities shine. We promote the celebration of inner and outer beauty for our patients and students, and pride ourselves on our conservative approach to cosmetic injectable treatments. We want you to look and feel like the best version of YOU!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite place to be is a nice patio. I love Legacy West in Plano for the amazing shopping and eating, especially Earl’s patio! We’d definitely have to find some live music, too. I also really enjoy spending time outside, so White Rock Lake is definitely one of my favorite spots.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Someone who has been integral to my success throughout the years is my friend and mentor Brenda Swartz. Brenda is the owner and founder of Body Dynamics + Skin Drink Skin Care–two incredible product lines! I met Brenda years ago, when I was 18, waiting tables at Souper Salad. Brenda owned a step aerobics studio at the time, and once we connected, I began teaching at her studio, and the rest is history. Brenda has supported me and believed in me as an entrepreneur from day one. Her ambition has inspired me throughout our 20+ year relationship, and I’m so grateful for her presence in my life.
