We had the good fortune of connecting with Tonay Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tonay, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I feel like with no risk there is no reward. At some point in your life, at least to elevate, there are things that you must risk to reach a higher level or just a better gain. As far as my experience I have taken risks My whole life. I join the military at 18. In a sense I was risking my whole life so that I could get a Head start with my finances, so that I can travel, meet new people, and have health care. Other people my age may have seemed like they were having a great time in college but we’re really struggling to get those things that I was getting. I just sacrificed a lot of parts of myself and my time to get certain results. In the end it was worth it because I am now going on 30, I am currently out of the military now, following my dreams, and I am Getting compensated for my risks for the rest of my life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been doing music all of my life. I was in love with music before I knew I was in love with music. My granny has stories from when I was younger about how animated I always was when it came to music. I also grew up singing in church. My teenage years I was writing a lot of poetry and songs. Singing was my passion but rapping allowed me to pop my shit. Rapping was like a alter ego. I join the military at 18 so Music just became a hobby to me but in 2014 I started modeling and that made me love the environment of entertainment which led to me doing music. In 2016 I decided to take music professionally while I was still in the military. That was hard because all of my time was dedicated to the army but a little bit of time that I did have, even if it sacrificed my sleep and my sanity, It felt right so I just finally took myself serious. Today I have put out my fourth single and it has never felt more right than this current moment. I’ve spent my whole life conforming to what people have told me I should do. Now that I am able to express myself I will not shut up. It’s not easy because as an adult we have a lot of responsibilities and in order to manage those we need to get paid. My whole career I was very unhappy with the army but I was more concerned about working for somebody else as long as I was getting paid instead of having enough faith to work for myself And believe that I will still get rewarded. The only way I overcame all of these obstacles and worrisome thoughts was when I tapped into my faith and realized how big and important I am of a person. Even in the military I had a lot of influence over my peers. Just imagine if I can have that influence over the world and also while doing something that I absolutely love. What also kept me going was how much people believed in me and wanted to see me win & my pride won’t let myself or anyone else down. I honestly just want to live by example. I want to let people know that Yes we are all the same but with different experiences meaning that if I can do it you can do it too it’s just a matter of how far we are truly willing to go In accepting the process of reaching our ultimate goals.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
At the moment I just moved to Atlanta, Georgia.I have only been here for a month so I am not the perfect tour guide but I do love to try new things. Every day we would just get up and try new places and figure out what life there is in this city. I love to eat, predominately seafood, so we would definitely try a lot of seafood restaurants. I’m a super fun person so I just love the randomness of life. Let’s just get up and go. Let’s go zip lining, the range, horseback riding, museums & temples, the amount of things that we could do would be endless.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Thank you to the most high of course. I honestly want to Thank everyone who has had my back and supported me through good and bad times. My sister Mimi is my number one though She’s my guardian angel.
