Meet Tomea Coleman | Singer, Songwriter, Band leader, Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tomea Coleman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tomea, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I do what no one else can do, ME! I am a singer. I have ALWAYS been a singer. What sets me apart is the fact that I am Me. God only made one and no one else can be Me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I got where I am by the Grace of God, many prayers, hard work, believing in myself and my gift. It was easy in one sense because I have always been able to sing. I didn’t work for it is was just the gift that God gave me. And I learned how to use it well. On the other hand learning to navigate as a Black female leader in a male dominated field has had it’s challenges and taught me a lot. I have overcome the challenges by surrounding myself with a team of people that go just as hard for me and my brand as I do. A dependable team is priceless. I have learned a lot along this journey. One of the main things was bet on yourself. Instead of waiting to be booked or given an opportunity I learned the ropes and booked myself and in time created opportunities for others. And this has allowed me to be unbulliable(is that a word?) I want the world to know that I am authentic, real, talented and about my business.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Find out where My Band is playing and GET THERE!!! Seriously, I would say find out where the live music is and vibe out! Dallas has too many places to just name a few.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shout out to my family. My husband Larry, daughter Lexi, and my Mother Melba. These three have ALWAYS supported me. My Mother form the beginning knew I could you use my gift of song and reach my goals. My Husband gave me the courage to believe in myself and the space that I take up. My daughter gave me the motivation. Knowing that she is watching and learning how to pursue her own goals. ow to pursue her own goals. My Father has always been a grounding factor.
