We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiera Masters and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiera, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think taking risks is extremely important. One of the best sayings is, “You never know until you try.” We’re so afraid to just do, that we let that fear control us into believing that we’re supposed to work for Corporate America forever, when that’s not true! Just this past week, April 6th to be exact, I quit my job. I literally sent an email to the HR department and told them that I wanted to focus more on my business and building it into what I envision it to be. I wasn’t scared, I wasn’t worried, and I definitely didn’t think twice about it. I talked it over with my fiancee and together we decided that this is what we want to do. Had I not taken this risks, I would’ve been trying to type these words, while taking phone calls and trying to complete orders. I know 5 to 10 years from now, we’re going to look back and be grateful that we stepped out on faith and took this risk!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The name of my Business is Upcrown Designs. The name reminds us that we are royalty and to remember to always hold our heads high. What sets us apart from others is that we do things a little different here. We learn as we go, all of our marketing products are made in house, we offer the best quality, and we stay in consist contact with our customers. We believe in honesty and treating people the way we want to be treated. I’m most excited about the future. We’ve grown and learned so much in the past year and I’m just excited to see how far we go! Where we are now in this business took some time and effort lol, TRUST ME! We’ve had long nights early mornings, and we’ve even pulled an all nighter once. We gotten tips from friends and family, we’ve watched countless youtube videos and don’t get me started on the number of tiktok videos we’ve watched. To be completely honest, this was a pretty easy road for us. We had a lot of help along the way, which made starting this business a little bit easier for us. We’ve learned a lot along the way. We’ve learned not to let anyone tell us how to run our business, we learned not give up when things got challenging or we didn’t see eye to eye on something, and lastly, we’ve learned that the sky ISN’T the limit and we can literally go to infinity and beyond. We want the world to know that Upcrown Designs is here to stay and we’re open to teaching anyone that wants to learn how to become a t-shirt making BOSS!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To be completely honest, we’re home bodies lol. We love to be home and around family. We don’t really get out, especially in our city. If our friends were coming over, they’re guaranteed to have a great time lol. We would have drinks and watch movies, play card games, video games, make a few tiktoks, and just enjoy each other’s company.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Because I’m truly blessed, I don’t have just one shoutout. My support system is out of this world amazing. From my mom, to both my mother in laws, my granny, my aunty, my siblings, and don’t get me started on my friends, but if I had to give just a little more credit to someone, it would have to be my fiancee Jorie. Making t-shirts was her idea. She randomly said we should get the cricut machine and the rest is history. We definitely bumped heads on the way, but she has been everything to me through this journey. She’s helped me hold my head up, she has helped me understand that it’s okay to be firm or even to say no. She lets me take the lead in this business; she’s the reason I found my talent, my creative side. And lastly, she loves me. Like she really LOVE me and that right there is the reason she deserves all the shoutouts in the world! I love you baby!
