We had the good fortune of connecting with Annie Schmidt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Annie, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always been interested in entrepreneurship and working for myself. I spent 13 years in the corporate world working for a large manufacturing company. I loved the people, but wasn’t always passionate about the industry. When Covid hit, I started organizing my home and friend’s homes to ease my anxiety. I found that I loved the combination of function and design, and it gave me an outlet to be creative and stay busy. My organizing business allows me to balance my life as a mom, but also do something for myself to stay active. I love to meet new people, and my passion has become helping moms and families find peace in their homes in these crazy times!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I find that the key to successful organization is a combination of function and beauty. I like to create systems for my clients that are functional, easy to maintain, and make sense for the family–but that also look beautiful. I have favorite products to use in each job, but I love to customize my projects to each specific client based on what they need and love. My specialty is busy families, because I truly believe that if you can have an organized system in your home, you will ultimately have more time to spend on the things that really matter.

I start each job with an in person consult to discuss goals, time estimate, budget and asesthetic. I keep a clear communication with the client throughout the process. My sales and business background helps me communicate clearly with the client to eliminate any surprises and deliver exactly what they need for each specific project. I strive for 100% satisfaction with every client and have my hands on the process every step of the way.  This allows me to bring a more personal approach- and my clients feel like a trusted friend is helping them!

I got started by finding a passion and just going for it. I didn’t ask for a ton of advice at first, because I didn’t want to get discouraged. I put my head down and hustled. I enjoy what I do, so I am constantly thinking of how to improve and how to grow my business. My specialty has become creating beautifully organized pantries, which are the heart of the home. Everyone in the family uses that space multiple times a day!

I have been so lucky to find find great clients that believe in what I am doing, and will refer me to others. Meeting new people and enjoying their beautiful homes has been an unexpected perk of this job, and I am loving every minute!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I love that Dallas is a mix of a ton of small neighborhoods. When friends come to visit, I like to show them lots of spots around town. I live in Lovers/Inwood area, so we like to hit Shinsei, Drakes, and good old Inwood Tavern if we have had cocktails and feel like hitting Karaoke or the dance floor. And Hudson house on Lovers has the BEST happy hour in town (don’t miss the burger and espresso martini)!

Knox/Henderson is a must for a ladies lunch at spots like RH, Grange Hall, or Toulouse. I love to have brunch with friends then shop around there! And Wild about Harry’s is our favorite family spot for a treat!

Working out (and organizing) keeps me sane, and I have been hitting Barrys Bootcamp and Black Swan Yoga lately. Brewed and Pressed next to Barrys in uptown has the MOST delish smoothies and coffee!

With Covid present, I have been meeting more friends for walks to be outside. Katy Trail and White Rock cant be beat. And the Bluffview neighborhood has some amazing properties and quiet wooded streets to jog and walk the kids!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family inspired me to find a job that I can balance being a mom and doing something that I love. My friends have all jumped on board with my goals and dreams and been supportive every step of the way. I couldn’t do what I’m doing without referrals and followers, and I am so grateful for each and every friend and client that has supported me! It is the greatest compliment when I get asked back for a second project with a client, or they share my services with their friends!
